Guymon kept Stage 3 restrictions as Mesa drilling approached

On September 30, 2026, Guymon said Stage 3 conservation rules remained in force: lawn irrigation was limited to one day a week, with different days for odd- and even-numbered addresses. The city also said drilling for the Mesa Water Project was scheduled to begin October 5. A future utility crew could use a contractor sleeper trailer at an approved work base, though the city update does not mention rental arrangements.

That was a near-term schedule, not a report that drilling had started or finished.

Mesa Water Phase II entered the bidding process in 2026

In July 2026, the city said ODEQ had approved construction plans for Phase II of the Mesa Water Project, moving the production-wellfield work into competitive bidding. The scope includes new production wells, raw-water piping, electrical controls, access roads, and site restoration.

For a later approved field phase, a portable restroom trailer could serve crews at a designated work area. Construction was expected only after authority approval and a notice to proceed.

Guymon's long-term water plan spans three project phases

The city's July 2026 update describes Phase II as production wells and associated raw-water infrastructure, with Phase III planned for a transmission main, booster pumping, storage improvements, and connection to the distribution system. The distinction matters: bidding on a wellfield is not the same as a complete new supply connection to city customers.

A contractor sleeper trailer could help an authorized crew working on a later phase, but the city has not tied EZE to this work.

A 2024 state grant funded Guymon water-system studies

In February 2024, the OWRB approved a $675,150 grant for Guymon Utilities Authority improvements, including test wells intended to evaluate additional water options as the Ogallala Aquifer declines. Test wells gather information; they are not themselves a finished production system. The grant record predates the current Mesa Water project schedule and should be understood as a separate funding milestone.

A future drilling team could consider a contractor sleeper trailer for remote work shifts at an approved location.

Guymon formed after the Panhandle left No Man's Land

For much of the nineteenth century, the area around present-day Guymon was known as No Man's Land. The Organic Act assigned the strip to Oklahoma Territory in 1890, after ranchers and then farmers had begun settling the region. A future local-history program could use a portable restroom trailer for visitors at its venue.

That legal transition preceded the railroad town and gave the Panhandle's later civic growth a different context from the central Oklahoma land runs.

A Sanford post office quickly became Guymon

The first post office in the proposed railroad town was designated Sanford in 1901, but the name changed to Guymon less than a month later. It honored Edward T. Guymon, president of the townsite company.

A future archive display could place a portable restroom trailer near its visitor area while tracing the two names. That short interval captures how rapidly the planned community was acquiring a public identity before the rail line arrived in 1902.

Businesses moved from Hardesty to the new rail town

When Guymon grew beside the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway in 1902, many businesses relocated from Hardesty, including Richard B. Quinn's Hardesty Herald, which became the Guymon Herald. The move linked the Panhandle's existing settlements to a new transportation hub and gave the newspaper a second life under a new town name.

If a future regional history event spans both communities, a portable restroom trailer could serve the gathering at its chosen venue.

Three banks and four doctors served Guymon by 1911

By 1911, Guymon had three banks, two newspapers, four doctors, three hotels, a cooperative flour mill, and a grain company. The inventory shows how quickly a railroad settlement became a service center for the Panhandle. It is a historical snapshot, not a description of the town's present business roster.

A future downtown heritage tour could use a portable restroom trailer at an approved event stop.

Black Sunday struck Guymon during the Dust Bowl

OHS identifies April 14, 1935, as one of the worst dust storms to hit Guymon during the Dust Bowl. The Panhandle lay in the region that experienced some of the most severe wind damage, and the storms came alongside the Great Depression. A future outdoor memorial or history program should plan for weather; a portable restroom trailer does not replace an indoor shelter.

The historical record links the event to an era of hardship but does not give a local casualty or damage total for this article.

Guymon Municipal Hospital opened in 1949

Guymon Municipal Hospital opened in 1949, adding a local institution after decades of settlement, rail growth, and agricultural expansion. OHS says it was later known as Memorial Hospital of Texas County.

For an authorized future facilities project, a contractor sleeper trailer may support a contractor crew away from patient areas. The historical entry does not establish the present hospital's name, campus, or service status, so the article confines itself to the recorded opening and later name.
