Railroad plans sent Geary southeast from its first site

The first Geary settlement stood one and a half miles northwest of today’s town. When settlers learned the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad would miss that site, they moved southeast toward the line. The town’s location was shaped by that decision; a future right-of-way crew could use a contractor sleeper trailer at an approved staging point.

Geary’s post office opened in October 1892

A post office was established in Geary on October 12, 1892, only months after the Cheyenne-Arapaho Opening. The town’s name honors Edmund Guerrier, a scout and Army interpreter whose allotment lay northeast of the site. A future local-history walk could set a portable restroom trailer near the route’s assembly area.

Geary’s name preserves a link to Edmund Guerrier

The town was named for Edmund Guerrier, a French-Cheyenne scout and interpreter for the U.S. Army. Because “Guerrier” proved difficult to pronounce, the name became Geary. That spelling records a local adaptation rather than the namesake’s original surname. A future cultural-history event could use a portable restroom trailer for visitors at its venue.

Geary’s early congregations moved with the growing town

In 1898, Mennonite missionary Jacob S. Krehbiel moved his church building into Geary. Presbyterians built a frame church the following year; after their congregation disbanded, the Church of Christ bought the building in 1921. A future heritage program could set a portable restroom trailer near its outdoor meeting space, keeping the timeline distinct from current congregations.

Geary reached first-class city status in 1902

Geary became a first-class city in 1902 after its population exceeded the two-thousand threshold; OHS gives a contemporary count of 2,561. By statehood in 1907 the count had fallen to 1,565. The contrast shows how quickly an early trade center could change. At a future civic exhibit, a portable restroom trailer could serve the outdoor audience.

Geary’s early bank building became a history museum

The First National Bank was the first business built in Geary’s new townsite. A later Bank of Commerce, known afterward as the American State Bank, failed during the Depression; its Gillespie Building now houses the Canadian Rivers Historical Museum. A future museum event could include a portable restroom trailer nearby if existing facilities are insufficient.

The Postal Highway brought Route 66 through Geary

By 1912, Geary was on the Postal Highway, later incorporated into U.S. Highway 66. The highway added a national travel corridor to a town whose position had first been drawn toward rail. If an approved future roadway project needs a remote crew base, a contractor sleeper trailer could support its workers away from active traffic.

Bunion Derby winner Andrew Payne passed through Geary

Andrew Payne, who won the 1928 Bunion Derby, came through Geary on the highway, according to OHS. The transcontinental race connected a local road to a nationally followed sporting event. A future road-race gathering could use a portable restroom trailer near its start or finish, subject to permits and event planning.

Project planning questions

Geary workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Geary?

Share the project address, workforce count, schedule, and the services your crew needs. EZE Trailer Rentals will review sleeper and supporting facility options for the location.

Which supporting facilities can be planned?

The focus is sleeper accommodation with supporting shower, restroom or bathroom, and laundry facilities. The mix depends on your workforce and site requirements.

Can the facilities be coordinated as one site plan?

Yes. Share how the units need to work together, along with placement, utility, delivery access, and servicing requirements. Final configuration and availability are confirmed for the project.

What information helps plan a project in Canadian County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

Geary served as a broad agricultural trade center

At statehood, Geary supported dry-goods and hardware shops, banks, lumberyards, a flour mill, broom factory, bottling works, cotton gins, and grain elevators. The list captures the range of services available to the surrounding farm country. A future agricultural fair could plan a temporary shower-restroom trailer for participants if the grounds need temporary washing facilities.

Geary’s 2020 census population was 995

Geary’s population changed considerably across the twentieth century: OHS lists 1,700 residents in 1980 and 995 in April 2020. The present census count reflects residents, not the audience for a Route 66 event or museum program. Organizers should estimate guests directly before choosing a portable restroom trailer for an outdoor gathering.
