The 1902 Turkey Creek flood destroyed Foss’s first townsite

In April 1902, a major flood destroyed thirty-nine homes in Turkey Creek Valley, washed away the depot and more than a mile of track, and killed nine people. The railroad and town had only just begun to establish a trade center there. For a present-day flood-recovery staging area, a shower and restroom combination trailer could support a response crew; the historical record does not connect EZE to that disaster.

Residents rebuilt Foss above the floodplain

After the 1902 flood, residents moved the town north of the railroad to higher ground, where Foss developed into a new commercial center. The relocation is a concrete example of rebuilding around site risk; any future work at a flood-prone site could use a 20-foot contractor sleeper trailer for crews only at a separately approved base.

A railroad turned Foss into a regional trading point

The Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway laid track through Foss in 1902, and the town’s trade territory extended nearly fifty miles north before the Canadian River interrupted it. That history is regional: it describes Foss’s reach, not a present-day rail service. A future track or crossing job could stage a event restroom trailer at a confirmed work compound.

Cotton and grain helped Foss recover as an agricultural center

By 1908 Foss had four cotton gins and two grain elevators among its many businesses, and OHS describes it as an important agricultural marketing center. If a future harvest event needs a food-service base, a mobile kitchen trailer could give organizers a practical preparation space without blocking farm deliveries.

Foss had a flour mill, buggy works, and broom factory

Foss’s 1908 business list went well beyond farm processing: it included a flour mill, wagon and buggy works, hay-baler manufacturer, machine shop, bakery, and broom factory. For a future renovation of a commercial building, a handwashing station station can be placed at an approved contractor base while trades work inside.

Foss’s population rose, fell, then climbed again

Foss counted 525 residents in 1910, 348 in 1920, and 524 in 1930; the number had fallen to 289 by 1960. The census sequence captures how quickly the railroad-era agricultural center changed. A current gathering should size a restroom trailer to its attendance rather than a century-old census count.

An electric plant and opera house marked Foss’s early growth

Foss had an electric plant by 1912, along with an opera house and a second hotel. Those public-facing places reflect a town that had expanded quickly after the flood and railroad arrival. If a future outdoor performance commemorates that era, organizers could locate a shower and restroom combination trailer near the audience area, apart from the historic sites.

Foss Dam was completed north of town in 1961

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation completed Foss Dam about six miles north of Foss in 1961, on the Custer County side of the area. The project created a reservoir for water supply, flood control, and recreation in Custer and Washita Counties. A future maintenance crew could consider a mobile sleeper trailer only at a permitted project base; the dam is not inside town.

Yes. Share how the units need to work together, along with placement, utility, delivery access, and servicing requirements. Final configuration and availability are confirmed for the project.

What information helps plan a project in Washita County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

A 2003 treatment-plant project addressed Foss Lake’s hard water

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality oversaw construction of an updated electrodialysis water-treatment plant at Foss Lake in 2003; OHS called it the only plant of its kind in Oklahoma at the time. This was a regional water project, not a plant in the town. If a similar future job is authorized, a shower trailer could support workers at the contractor’s approved site.

Foss’s newspaper and school district both closed in the mid-century era

The Foss Enterprise stopped publishing in the 1930s, and School District Number Twelve closed in the middle of the twentieth century. Those separate closures mark a quieter phase after the town’s early commercial boom. A future community archive program could use a event restroom trailer for visitors at a current venue while presenting the school’s and paper’s history accurately.
