Empire’s school renovation plan included the locker rooms

Bathroom and changing-room access can be the first practical issue when an athletic complex is being renovated. combined shower and restroom trailers could give a present-day construction crew a separate place to wash and use the restroom while permanent rooms are closed.

Empire had a real project with that kind of scope. At an April 2019 community meeting, the superintendent outlined plans to put remaining 2017 bond money toward a new roof and floor in the old gym. KSWO also reported renovations to the athletic complex’s locker rooms, concession stand and bathrooms.

Those named spaces make the facilities question concrete. The contractor’s temporary setup would have to fit the rooms actually taken out of use and the school’s access plan, keeping construction traffic clear of pupils and regular campus activity.

Empire City began as Stephens County drilling accelerated

Empire City started in the late 1910s, as drilling activity expanded across Stephens County. The community’s origin was tied to oil-field work, and its first post office was established in February 1921. The post office closed in 1934, a record of the town’s changing fortunes rather than evidence that the settlement vanished at once. A modern energy-service crew working nearby could use sleeper trailers for a temporary overnight base, after confirming access and utility needs.

At its first peak, Empire City was estimated at 3,000 people

The Oklahoma Historical Society describes Empire City as a classic boomtown, with an estimated population of about 3,000 and many transient oil-field workers. Dirt-paved Main Street carried saloons and other entertainment businesses. The number is an estimate tied to the oil boom, not a census count. If a future remote project brought a large shift crew to the region, remote man-camp facilities could be part of a temporary facilities plan sized to actual staffing.

Empire City’s 1920 additions stretched across nearly two miles

In June 1920, Empire City was extended along nearly two miles. Two or three additions were being developed, and lots reportedly sold for as much as $1,000, often with rows of cultivated corn on the ground. The account captures a peculiar overlap of speculative town growth and active farmland. A future survey crew mapping historic lot boundaries might use sleeper trailers as a base while checking each parcel against the original plat.

Empire City’s post office closed in December 1934

The Empire City post office, opened in 1921, was discontinued in December 1934. The date falls after the first oil boom and offers one marker of the community’s contraction, though the post-office closure alone does not establish when residents left. During a future archive project organizing local mail or land records, portable handwashing stations could supply a handwashing point for staff at a temporary workspace.

The school district outlasted Empire City’s first boom

The Empire School District was the only institution the OHS history says survived more than a few decades after the original boom town formed. A red-brick school building was the sole structure remaining from the early twentieth-century boom and was slated for demolition in the mid-1990s. These details describe separate parts of the record: a continuing district and one threatened historic building. A preservation crew could use portable restroom trailers during a future survey, with approvals secured first.

Residents re-incorporated a 40-acre Empire City in the 1960s

Nearly fifty years after the first boom, local residents incorporated a 40-acre tract as Empire City around 1967. The Oklahoma Historical Society says they acted in response to encroachment from Duncan and Comanche and to avoid annexation. The new municipal boundary did not include Empire School, and the population was only 23 in 1970. A future public works crew could use combined shower and restroom trailers on an approved site, but this article describes the town’s historic boundary decision.

Empire City counted 13 residents in 1980

After the 1967 revival, Empire City’s population fell from 23 in 1970 to 13 in 1980. The number was small even before a later boundary expansion changed who could be included in the town. Read together, the figures show why a townwide census count can shift sharply when a municipality changes its footprint. For a future volunteer workday, portable restroom trailers could provide temporary sanitation at a site selected for current attendance and service access.

What information helps plan a project in Stephens County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

Empire City revived again in the mid-1980s to provide fire protection

Local residents revitalized Empire City again in the mid-1980s, primarily to provide fire protection. At about the same time, the town limits expanded to include interested residents. The timing helps explain the later population rise, but the OHS account does not say the fire service alone caused that growth. If a present-day regional training event required facilities, portable shower trailers could support a temporary crew at an approved location.

Empire City’s population rose to 219 in 1990

After its mid-1980s boundary expansion, Empire City’s census population reached 219 in 1990, then 734 by 2000. The Oklahoma Historical Society calls the increase dramatic and records 955 residents in 2010 before the 2020 count fell to 703. The decade-by-decade changes describe a community whose footprint and population both shifted; they should not be treated as a single continuous oil boom. For a future event, combined shower and restroom trailers can be planned from the expected crowd rather than a past census.
