Removing the old refinery at Cyril was a staged cleanup

At Cyril’s Oklahoma Refining Co. site, removing the refinery was one stage of a much longer cleanup. EPA records demolition of towers, buildings and piping in 2003, followed in 2006 by tank removal, fencing and disposal of demolition debris. Southern-site remedial construction had already finished in 2001.

For a contractor mobilizing to a future industrial cleanup, temporary sleeper units would belong in a clean accommodation area approved by the site manager. Its entrance and service route should remain outside the cleanup work area, with crew transport and washing arrangements discussed before the base is occupied.

EPA’s account describes several phases at the 160-acre former refinery. It is a useful local example of why welfare facilities and sleeping space must be planned around the boundaries of the work, rather than placed wherever land appears vacant.

Cyril was platted on a Comanche child’s allotment

Cyril was established on eighty acres allotted to the infant daughter of Bayard Lookingglass, a Comanche. The Oklahoma Historical Society names this land history before turning to the town’s 1906 plat. A future heritage program could consider a portable restroom trailer for visitors, planned with care and respect for the site and its history. That context belongs in any account of Cyril’s formation.

Cyril’s townsite opened to settlement in 1907

E. S. Pearson, C. A. Nunnelley, Dr. M. H. Eden, and A. A. Hiatt platted Cyril in late 1906; the townsite opened to settlement in 1907. A future walking tour could use a shower and restroom combination trailer at a permitted gathering point, giving visitors a place to stop while the guide explains how the town was laid out. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the names and dates.

Broomcorn and melons were among Cyril’s early crops

Cyril’s early farm economy included corn, hay, melons, cattle, hogs, and broomcorn. If a future agricultural demonstration brought a crew to an outdoor site, a portable shower trailer could be reviewed for workers staying through a multi-day event. The Oklahoma Historical Society records those crops before the refinery changed the town’s industrial profile.

A railway connected Cyril with Oklahoma City and Lawton

Cyril lay on the Oklahoma City and Western Railroad line between Oklahoma City and Lawton. A future trackside survey team could consider a contractor sleeper trailer if fieldwork required an overnight stay. After 1907, the line became a branch of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway. The Oklahoma Historical Society records this link as part of the town’s early setting.

A refinery opened in Cyril in 1918

A refinery was built in Cyril in 1918 to handle output from the nearby Cement Field. If a future industrial-site project required temporary crew facilities, a portable restroom trailer could be evaluated after site conditions were checked. The field was nearby; the refinery stood in the community itself. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the distinction and the plant’s later role in local employment.

Anderson-Pritchard made the refinery Cyril’s economic mainstay

Anderson-Pritchard operated Cyril’s refinery from 1922 until the late 1970s, and the Oklahoma Historical Society describes the plant as the town’s economic mainstay. Oklahoma Refinery Company later acquired it and ran it until about 1987. That operating history is separate from the site cleanup covered in the existing article. If a future industrial history project required an overnight crew base, a contractor sleeper trailer could be reviewed after the site was cleared for work.

Cyril counted 525 residents in an unofficial 1917 tally

An unofficial 1917 count put Cyril’s population at 525; the first federal census to include the community, in 1920, recorded 386. The Oklahoma Historical Society preserves both numbers and their different status. By 1930, after the refinery opened, the count had reached 922. If a future archive project compared the records, a portable restroom trailer could serve an outdoor research event.

Project planning questions

Cyril workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Cyril?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Cyril’s local press included seven newspaper titles

Cyril had several newspapers over time, including the Cyril Advocate, Enterprise, Pioneer, Courier, and Weekly News, alongside the Cyril News and Caddo County News. The Oklahoma Historical Society lists the titles and says Cyril News still served the town at the end of the twentieth century. A future newspaper-digitization effort could consider a mobile laundry trailer for a multi-day crew.

Cyril operates under a commission form of government

The Oklahoma Historical Society identifies commission as Cyril’s form of city government. If a future municipal facility renovation needed temporary worker access, a portable restroom trailer could be assessed for the job site. That civic detail belongs alongside the town’s population and newspaper records, offering a glimpse of its public institutions after the refinery era.
