Albion’s November 1983 tornado crossed the town itself

The November 22, 1983 tornado did not merely pass through the countryside near Albion. The National Weather Service records a path from one mile southwest of town to two miles northeast, with almost every building in Albion sustaining some damage. Four mobile homes and five houses were destroyed.

That breadth of damage can make finding an undamaged building difficult for a recovery team. A temporary workforce camp at a cleared support property is one way to plan sleeping space and its accompanying washing and bathroom facilities for a future extended response. The support location would need to be established separately from unstable buildings and debris traffic. The storm’s three-mile path crossed the town itself, making the choice of a usable base more than a question of distance to the damaged streets.

The 1962 tornado crossed the school grounds

Three school buildings lost roofing when a tornado crossed Albion’s school grounds late on May 28, 1962. The original Weather Bureau report also records church damage and windows blown out at the school and a nearby house. A temporary restroom trailer at a cleared repair compound could serve crews while damaged roofs and electrical connections are assessed, keeping routine breaks beyond overhead work. Beyond Albion, the storm destroyed a barn, damaged five farms and brought down utility lines along its route toward Talihina. The record follows a storm that affected several properties; it does not describe the whole school as demolished. That distinction leaves a clearer picture of the separate repairs facing the school and its neighbors.

Pump and disinfection upgrades for the Albion-based district

A water-system construction compound needs washing facilities whose supply is settled separately from the equipment being replaced. For the contractor’s clean break area, handwashing stations can be planned alongside the work sequence, without assuming that a treatment or pumping installation can also supply temporary facilities.

On March 19, 2024, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board approved $1.7 million for Pushmataha County Rural Water District No. 2. The scope included booster-station rehabilitation, aging-pump replacement, a backup generator and chloramine disinfection.

The district is based in Albion and serves a wider area. Contemporary reporting identified customers in Pushmataha, Latimer and LeFlore counties. This was district infrastructure funding, with $800,000 in loan forgiveness; the approval does not establish a townwide outage or a completed construction date.

Bridge No. 9 was proposed southeast of Albion

Bridge No. 9 in Pushmataha County’s 1915 bond proposal had a precise destination: a Kiamichi River crossing three miles southeast of Albion. The commissioners’ published resolution scheduled a June 19 election, with the Albion schoolhouse serving as a local polling place. The river setting is also the practical connection to temporary facilities. On a bridge job at a rural crossing, a crew restroom trailer can be based on approved upland ground, where its service vehicle can reach it without using the active work area. The May 27 newspaper notice records an intended crossing and the voting arrangements. It leaves the eventual election result and any construction at this location to later records.

A March fire burned four miles southeast of town

The Post Oak Road fire was burning four miles southeast of Albion when the March 4, 2025 national incident report was issued. It covered 150 acres and was 30 percent contained at that snapshot, with wind-driven runs and torching in timber litter and brush.

At a response staging point, handwashing stations can give crews washing access before clean breaks, away from the active fire edge. Delivery would follow the incident’s access restrictions.

The report listed four personnel and one engine. Its figures describe the resources and conditions reported that morning, rather than the eventual size of the operation. The location was near Albion; the bulletin does not report that flames entered the town or identify losses to buildings there.

The Nation supported an Albion broadband application

On August 10, 2024, the Choctaw Nation Tribal Council adopted a bill supporting Oklahoma Western Telephone Company’s Community Connect application for work in Albion. All eleven members answering the roll voted in favor. The legislation supplied tribal consent for the federal application; it was not itself an announcement that USDA had awarded construction money.

If the proposed broadband work proceeds to installation, a restroom trailer can serve a fixed crew compound while technicians and civil crews work along the route. The compound should be chosen after the route and access permissions are settled, rather than placing support equipment on an assumed project footprint. The council’s record ties the application directly to Albion and describes the purpose as expanding broadband access within the reservation.

A creek crossing on the U.S. 271 approach to Albion

A crew restroom trailer for a bridge crew belongs at a stable staging point beyond the excavation and traffic controls. The 2019 U.S. 271 bridge solicitation near Albion shows why those arrangements need to be considered together: its scope combined removal of an existing structure, excavation, concrete work and temporary traffic signals.

ODOT advertised the work for its May 16, 2019 letting. The site was an unnamed creek crossing 4.9 miles southwest of the Latimer County line, identified by the department as near Albion. The solicitation allowed 120 calendar days and included roadway approaches as well as the bridge. These are bid requirements for a specific nearby highway project. They establish neither a contractor’s actual starting date nor the date the crossing reopened.

The archived work plan reaches U.S. 271 near Albion

A rural road crew’s restroom trailer needs a serviceable base outside the lane being resurfaced. On Old Indian Highway near Albion, the archived state work plan describes a corridor job extending to U.S. 271. ODOT’s August 2023 county transportation material programmed the resurfacing for fiscal 2028, with $1.8 million assigned. Its description begins south of the Post Oak Road junction and continues north to the highway near town. A fixed support area would need to remain reachable as crews move along that route. The year and amount belong to the archived program: they establish the planning milestone, while any later contract or revised schedule would need its own confirmation.

Project planning questions

Albion workforce facility FAQs.

Can you review a remote workforce setup near Albion?

Yes. Share the exact address, crew count, dates, and sleeping, shower, bathroom, or laundry needs. Site access, utilities, and servicing requirements help determine what may fit.

Can the project be outside Albion town limits?

Send the job address and delivery route. Rural sites in Pushmataha County can be reviewed once access, placement, and service conditions are clear.

What should I provide when requesting sleeper accommodation?

Start with the number of people, expected stay, rooming preferences, shift pattern, and space available at the site. Include utility and servicing details if you have them.

Can I request bathrooms, showers, or laundry without sleepers?

Yes. Tell us how many people will use the facilities, for how long, and what water, power, wastewater, delivery, and servicing access is available.

A bank and a dentist shared the 1910 brick building

John T. Bailey’s 1910 Albion State Bank put banking in the main room and his brother Edgar’s dental office in two rooms at the rear. The one-story brick building measured about 40 by 25 feet, with a high copper ceiling, according to its National Register nomination. Its modest size suggests keeping a temporary restroom trailer outside the historic rooms during any modern building work, with the entry left clear for materials. The nomination follows several distinct uses of the property: the bank moved to Talihina around 1927, a grocery opened in 1930, and the building later became a residence. By the 1979 survey it was unoccupied. Those changes describe the building’s recorded past, without implying a renovation is underway today.

The 2015 survey followed damaged trees into Albion

The May 25, 2015 tornado approached Albion through wooded terrain that surveyors could not reach by road. An aerial survey found extensive tree damage southwest of town. On Deep Lake Loop, uprooted trees marked its approach; in Albion, several homes were damaged and an outbuilding was destroyed.

At a recovery base beyond damaged trees and buildings, handwashing stations can give cleanup crews washing access before meals without routing them through residents’ homes.

The National Weather Service classified this segment as EF2 and estimated its strongest winds at 115–125 mph. The track continued into Latimer County. The survey’s distinction between the remote approach and damage within Albion matters: this was a documented town impact, rather than a county event assigned to the nearest place name.
