DEQ reviewed a new water-reuse permit application for Grayson Lagoons

Oklahoma DEQ’s permit tracker lists a new Tier II water-reuse application for Grayson Lagoons wastewater treatment, received August 18, 2026. The page shows administrative review awaiting an applicant response. Should the facility later move into an authorized field phase, a portable restroom trailer could support workers at a designated jobsite. The application record establishes its review status as posted, but gives no construction award or start date.

That is a current permitting step, not a final permit decision or confirmation that construction is underway.

Grayson's jail entered the National Register in 2024

The Oklahoma Historical Society announced the Grayson Jail's National Register listing in January 2024. The stone structure, built around 1900, is only about 140 square feet and is the sole surviving government building from the town's early development, according to the designation notice.

Any future preservation event should respect the site's scale; a portable restroom trailer could serve visitors at a separate gathering area. The recognition brought a contemporary preservation milestone to a town with deep roots as an all-Black community.

The jail's concrete floor was added in 1920

Grayson's small stone jail began operating around 1900, but its physical history continued after construction: a concrete floor was added in 1920. The OHS listing says the building remained a jail until 1937, when the town no longer needed one. Those details make the structure a record of changing local government, not simply a relic of its original building date.

If a future conservation crew undertakes authorized work, a contractor sleeper trailer might support staff at an off-site base.

Grayson was once called Wildcat

A 2023 State Historic Preservation Office survey records the earlier name Wildcat for the community that became Grayson. The survey also notes uncertainty about whether the later name honored the first postmaster, Birl Grayson, or Muscogee leader George W. Grayson. Keeping that uncertainty visible is part of accurate local history; the record does not settle the naming question.

A future history program could use a portable restroom trailer for visitors while presenting both explanations as documented possibilities.

A 1909 survey counted five stores in Grayson

The OHS survey describes Grayson in 1909 with five stores, two blacksmiths, two drugstores, a physician, a cotton gin, and three churches. This detailed snapshot shows a community supporting everyday commerce and services for the surrounding area. At a future community exhibit, a temporary shower-restroom trailer could serve attendees at an outdoor site if facilities are limited.

It gives a sense of local scale at a moment when the town was establishing its civic identity.

Grayson grew apart from the nearest railroad line

The OHS survey says Grayson's nearest railroad was about two and a half miles away. That detail complicates the usual story of an Oklahoma town created directly at a depot: Grayson developed its own institutions without a rail line at its edge.

If future infrastructure work is undertaken in the area, a contractor sleeper trailer might support field staff at an authorized base, not at an assumed rail site. Its location in Muscogee Nation is part of the setting described by the preservation survey.

Grayson remains one of Oklahoma's incorporated Black towns

The Oklahoma Historical Society's marker program lists Grayson among Oklahoma's remaining incorporated all-Black towns. The label describes an important part of the town's settlement and civic history; it does not reduce the community to a historic category. The 2024 recognition of the jail adds a surviving built landmark to that wider story.

A future cultural-history gathering could use a portable restroom trailer near its venue, with the event planned in consultation with local hosts.

The Grayson Jail stopped operating in 1937

The jail continued to serve Grayson until 1937, when the town no longer needed a jail, the National Register announcement says. The closure marks a change in civic function rather than a single dramatic event. Because the building is the only remaining government structure from the town's early years, the former jail also helps tell a story broader than law enforcement.

A portable restroom trailer might support a future interpretive program held elsewhere on the grounds, subject to permission and site conditions.

A 140-square-foot stone building preserves Grayson's early civic record

At roughly 140 square feet, the Grayson Jail is small, but OHS says it is the only surviving government building from the community's initial development. Stone construction and the concrete floor added in 1920 preserve evidence of its physical evolution. For a future preservation day, a portable handwashing station station could support workers or visitors at a designated staging point.

The 2024 listing recognizes both the structure and its connection to Grayson's early self-government.

A 2024 designation renewed attention to Grayson's jail

The jail's listing was announced on January 31, 2024, bringing recent state recognition to a building that had served the town nearly a century earlier. OHS identified the property near Perkins and Finley Streets in Grayson and tied its significance to the town's founding as an all-Black community.

If a future public program draws visitors to the area, a portable restroom trailer could be arranged at an approved visitor gathering site. The notice is a preservation designation, not a report of a renovation contract.
