Goltry’s countryside opened with the Cherokee Outlet Run

The area around Goltry opened to non-Indian settlement in September 1893 as part of the Cherokee Outlet. An early settlement called Karoma grew on the John Streich farm about a mile and a half southeast of today’s town. A future heritage program could use a portable restroom trailer at its venue while carefully distinguishing the two sites.

Immigrants from Russia and Bohemia shaped Goltry’s early community

Among the early settlers were Germans from Russia, along with people from Bohemia and Switzerland. OHS notes that 33 percent of residents still claimed German ancestry in 2000. A future cultural-history gathering might feature family records or food traditions, with a portable handwashing station station near any food service area.

Karoma residents moved homes and businesses to the railway

When the Arkansas Valley and Western Railway built east-west tracks in 1904, many Karoma residents moved their homes and businesses to the line. Rail access turned the new Goltry site into a market center. A future permitted rail-corridor crew could use a contractor sleeper trailer at a staging area separated from the track.

A town company surveyed 240 acres for Goltry

A townsite company led by John Linden surveyed and platted 240 acres in 1904. The community was incorporated and named after Enid resident Charles Goltry, whose milling company built a grain elevator there. For a future local-history display about that original plan, a portable restroom trailer could serve visitors at the event venue.

James Hagemeier became Goltry’s first postmaster

James Hagemeier was appointed postmaster in January 1904 as the new town formed beside the railway. By statehood, 183 people lived in Goltry. The postal appointment and population estimate offer separate measures of an emerging community. A future community celebration could site a portable restroom trailer near its gathering area.

Goltry had a school, bank, churches, and a newspaper by 1910

By 1910, Goltry supported two churches, a public school, a bank, and the Goltry News, along with retail and grain businesses. The town served area farmers through more than rail shipping alone. A future school or alumni event could use a portable shower trailer for participants if the venue requires temporary wash facilities.

Oil producers built loading racks at Goltry’s rail siding

Oil production began in southeastern Alfalfa County in the mid-1920s. Three oil producers or refiners built loading racks at Goltry’s railroad siding, adding petroleum traffic to a wheat-based market town. An authorized modern field survey could use a contractor sleeper trailer at its approved base; no active oil work is claimed.

Voters approved a water-system bond during the Depression era

During the 1930s, Goltry residents approved a water-system bond and secured a new community building, schools, and public park. Those investments continued even as the Great Depression affected rural towns. For a future authorized public-works crew, a contractor sleeper trailer could provide temporary accommodation at a designated base.

Goltry’s Farmers’ Exchange Elevator earned historic recognition

The Farmers’ Exchange Elevator is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It reflects Goltry’s long role in storing and shipping the wheat grown around town. If a future preservation crew works at the elevator, a portable restroom trailer could be placed at an approved staging area clear of the historic structure.

Goltry joined a regional school district as its population changed

By the 1990s, Goltry students attended the consolidated Timberlake School District with peers from Helena, Jet, and Nash. The town had 252 residents in the 2020 census. The school district crossed town boundaries, so a future alumni event could plan a portable restroom trailer for the actual venue and attendance.
