Carrier's April 1999 tornado struck homes before the better-known May outbreak

Four houses in Carrier lost their roofs when an F2 tornado crossed the town on April 21, 1999. The National Weather Service's monthly report describes a circulation that formed southwest of town, widened as it approached Carrier, and continued northeast. A school and church on the north side had comparatively minor roof or window damage. Those differences between nearby buildings shape the first repair decisions. A temporary bathroom trailer can support contractors at a damaged property where the existing bathroom cannot be used, while work at a neighboring site may need no extra facility.

The report attributes the area's damage to a combination of the tornado and straight-line winds. In total, it lists eight homes and businesses destroyed and fourteen buildings with major damage. Carrier's documented event occurred in April, separate from the statewide May tornado outbreak that followed.

Carrier’s settlement followed the 1893 Cherokee Outlet opening

Carrier grew in the area opened to non-Indigenous settlement in the 1893 Cherokee Outlet land opening. Early homesteaders faced crop failures before wheat became a more dependable crop. That context explains why the town's early economy shifted. For a future farm repair crew, shared sleeper trailer could be considered where the landowner has room and utility access.

A homestead church became Carrier’s first building in 1895

Church meetings began at a homestead in 1894, and a dedicated building was completed in 1895. OHS describes it as the community's first building and says it briefly doubled as a school. For a future repair at an occupied rural church, 12-foot restroom trailer could give contractors a separate facility while services continue where safe.

Solomon Carrier opened the area’s first store in 1895

Solomon Carrier opened a store in 1895, before the townsite moved to the railroad. The post office followed in 1897, and the settlement later took his surname. These records trace a merchant's role in giving a rural community a place to gather and trade. For a future downtown project, 12-foot restroom trailer can support contractors without using a neighboring shop.

Carrier moved a mile to reach the railway in 1903–04

Carrier's townsite was platted in 1903 and then relocated about a mile when the railway was completed in 1904. The move put the settlement beside the route that could carry its wheat and livestock to market. A future linear project near a rural town could consider 24-foot mobile laundry trailer if workers stay through multiple shifts.

Carrier’s earliest school met above a mercantile

A schoolhouse operated above a mercantile in 1896, reflecting how the town used available space before purpose-built public facilities were established. The early academy followed in 1898. During a future school restoration or construction project, 14-foot restroom trailer could serve workers outside the student areas.

Northwestern Academy operated in Carrier for about twelve years

Northwestern Academy opened in 1898 as a non-denominational school and operated for about twelve years. Its short life makes it a distinct chapter from the later public-school system. A future educational-history exhibit could use office and sleeper trailer for staff and equipment while the display is assembled.

Grain elevators linked Carrier to wheat shipping

Carrier's elevators handled wheat from nearby farms, making the railway town a collection point as well as a place to live. The agricultural system shaped the town's early business pattern. For a future elevator or grain-handling repair, 14-foot restroom trailer could be planned at a safe site perimeter if the operator requests a temporary unit.

Project planning questions

Carrier workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Carrier?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Oil activity reached Carrier before World War I

Oil activity arrived near Carrier before World War I, adding an industrial strand to a town first built around homesteads and wheat shipping. OHS records the timing without naming a specific producer. For a comparable future field assignment, 22-foot shower trailer may suit a longer stay if water and wastewater services are available at the worksite.

Carrier incorporated in 1972

Carrier incorporated in 1972, decades after its railroad-era townsite moved to the line. The late incorporation gave the small community a formal municipal structure long after its early trade-center peak. If a future public works job brings contractors to town, shower and restroom combination trailer could be evaluated against the project footprint and available local facilities.
