Fargo developed where two historic routes crossed

The Fort Supply–Fort Elliott military road and the Western Trail crossed about two miles northeast of present Fargo, at Wolf Creek. The routes made the area a transportation corridor before the railroad and townsite arrived. A future local-history walk could keep a event restroom trailer at the event base while leaving the historic route unobstructed.

A railroad crossed Fargo’s corner of Oklahoma in 1887

The Southern Kansas Railway built tracks across northwestern Oklahoma in 1887, passing through Woodward, Fargo, Gage and Shattuck toward Texas. The line predated the 1893 settlement opening and gave later farms a route to outside markets. For a future rail-corridor repair, a rail crew restroom trailer might support crews from an approved staging property.

The 1893 land opening changed settlement around Fargo

The area around Fargo formed part of the Cherokee Outlet until it opened to non-Indigenous settlement in 1893. The OHS history places that opening after earlier transportation routes and before Fargo’s townsite; it does not describe a single town-center event. A public program about the opening could use a history event restroom trailer at a designated visitor site.

David Ooley’s store began Fargo’s commercial story

Homesteader David C. Ooley filed a claim near Boggy Creek and opened a general store. After the railroad established a way station, he acquired more land along the tracks and built another store. The account ties Fargo’s later trade role to a specific early merchant; an outdoor heritage display could use a event restroom trailer for visitors.

Whitehead was Fargo’s first postal name

Ooley’s second store received a postal designation as Whitehead in October 1893. A community gradually formed around that store and the railroad way station, before its townsite was formally organized. The name is an early marker of the settlement’s growth; a future community event could plan a community event restroom trailer near the site of its own gathering.

Fargo’s townsite was first platted as Oleta

Ooley and three partners formed a townsite company and surveyed and platted the settlement as Oleta. The post-office name changed to Oleta in August 1901, with Grant W. Bailey serving as postmaster. For a future downtown exhibit about the earlier name, a heritage event restroom trailer could serve visitors outside the historic business block.

The post office adopted the name Fargo in February 1905

The community’s postal designation changed from Oleta to Fargo in February 1905. OHS says the reason is unknown, which leaves a gap in the naming record rather than a confirmed company namesake. That uncertainty can be part of an accurate local exhibit; a event restroom trailer would be a practical addition at a related public gathering, not a historical detail.

Fargo entered statehood as a 436-person town

Fargo was incorporated from Oleta Township at Oklahoma statehood, with a population of 436. Businesses served farm families living nearby, extending the town’s role beyond its residential streets. A present-day agricultural event could fit a agricultural event restroom trailer to actual attendance and site access rather than use the historic census as a planning estimate.

Fargo businesses connected nearby farms with markets

The historical account describes Fargo’s businesses as a way for surrounding farm families to reach markets. That commercial purpose followed the railroad and was distinct from the county-seat functions assigned to Arnett. A future harvest or farm-equipment gathering could place a event restroom trailer where visitors can reach it without crossing truck circulation.

Fargo recorded 312 residents in the 2020 census

Fargo’s population hovered near three hundred from 1940 through 1960, then measured 364 in 2010 and 312 in April 2020. The census history shows a small town whose service role persisted even as headcount changed. For a current gathering, a event restroom trailer should be planned from attendance and duration, not inferred from those census totals.
