Fairview celebrated its first train on August 20, 1903

The Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway reached Fairview in 1903, and residents marked the first train on August 20. By 1908 the railway maintained machine shops, a roundhouse and a division point there. A future rail-history festival could put a festival restroom trailer near visitors without blocking equipment access.

Fairview won the Major County seat in a 1908 election

After competing with Cleo Springs, Orienta and Ringwood, Fairview became Major County’s permanent seat on December 22, 1908. It received 1,794 votes, compared with 461, 419 and 287 for the other towns. That decision located county offices and later courthouse projects in Fairview. A public-history event about the vote could plan a public event restroom trailer for visitors near the square.

Two courthouse buildings marked Fairview’s county-seat role

County commissioners first rented office space before a two-story brick courthouse was built in 1908–09. A larger stone courthouse followed in 1928 at a reported cost of $77,495; it was listed on the National Register in 1984. For future preservation work, a preservation crew restroom trailer could serve a contractor base outside the historic building.

A trade day and county fair put Fairview on the calendar

Fairview merchants organized their first trade day in April 1908. In September that year the town hosted Major County’s first fair, giving the county seat a public gathering beyond its shop district. If a future fair includes outdoor stalls and livestock areas, a fairground restroom trailer can serve visitors while keeping animal and delivery lanes clear.

Fairview had Major County’s only high school in 1908

In March 1908, the Fairview school system employed six teachers and enrolled 246 students. By May, the town had the only high school in Major County. A white-brick school stood in the center of town, linking the county seat to a wider rural attendance area. During a future campus renovation, a school construction restroom trailer can support contractors on a separate route.

Banks, gins and elevators served Fairview’s farm trade

Three banks, two cotton gins, a flour mill and a grain elevator operated in Fairview by 1909. In the 1930s, the mix included grain companies, creameries and a meat-distribution plant. The sequence shows how the county seat handled farm inputs and processing. A future agricultural installation may need a agricultural project restroom trailer for contractors working through a long delivery window.

Fairview’s newspapers tracked a growing county seat

The Fairview Leader and Fairview Republican were among the town’s early papers; by 1918 residents supported a third title, the Fairview Enterprise. The names mark a local press that expanded alongside county offices, schools and rail activity. A future newspaper-history exhibit could use a event restroom trailer for an outdoor visitor area.

Fairview’s 1941 fire station combined safety and New Deal work

A two-story concrete fire station at Broadway and Sixth was built in 1941. The State Historic Preservation Office’s survey describes its Art Deco design and says construction provided jobs for agricultural workers affected by Depression and drought conditions. During a future restoration, a restoration crew restroom trailer could serve a contractor base outside the historic building.

Northwest Technology Center classes began in Fairview in 1972–73

The Fairview campus of Northwest Technology Center began offering classes in the 1972–73 school year. It added vocational training to a town that had served county students with public schools since the early twentieth century. At a future outdoor demonstration day, a training event restroom trailer can support participants moving between instruction and equipment.

An airport and museum joined Fairview’s civic institutions

At the turn of the twenty-first century, Fairview’s institutions included a municipal airport, a library, a newspaper and the Major County Historical Society Museum. The airport gave the town a different transportation role from the 1903 rail junction. For future apron work, a airport project restroom trailer could be stationed outside the active movement area with airport approval.

Black Sunday’s dust storm is part of Major County’s record

The Major County history records the April 14, 1935 Black Sunday dust storm among the county’s major events. This places Fairview within the regional drought and dust history; the source does not say a particular Fairview building was damaged. An agricultural education event today could use a outdoor event restroom trailer while organizers plan around wind and dust.
