Cushing’s 2016 earthquake damaged masonry buildings

After an earthquake, a restroom trailer might restore bathroom access for a repair crew before the building itself is ready to use. Cushing’s November 6, 2016 earthquake is a concrete local example of the disruption behind that planning: USGS identifies a magnitude 5.0 event and documents damage to masonry buildings and facades.

The agency’s photograph draws attention to brick and stone construction exposed to strong shaking. On a future repair site, bathroom placement would need clearance from the site team and separation from unstable walls. A convenient patch of pavement beside a damaged facade could be exactly the wrong place to put a unit or send a servicing vehicle.

Cushing’s formal history begins with the 1891 land run

Cushing’s formal history began with the land run into the Sac and Fox Reservation on September 22, 1891. A future archival program could use a portable restroom trailer for visitors. William “Billy Rae” Little had selected a townsite beforehand, then built a house to establish his claim after the run. The Oklahoma Historical Society situates the town’s beginning within that specific land opening and reservation context.

A former government trader selected the townsite

Before the 1891 land run, William Little had worked as a government trader for the Sac and Fox people and knew the area. For a future town-history event outdoors, organizers could assess a shower and restroom combination trailer for visitors if permanent facilities are limited. He selected a site for a town, then laid out lots after securing his claim. The Oklahoma Historical Society records this sequence.

Cushing was named for a postmaster general’s secretary

Cushing’s post office opened on November 10, 1891. A future archive crew handling postal records could consider a portable restroom trailer if the work were based outside a permanent facility. The town was named for Marshall Cushing, private secretary to U.S. Postmaster General John Wanamaker. The Oklahoma Historical Society records both details before describing the early cotton trade.

The Katy added a second railway line in 1903

The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway added service to Cushing on its own line in 1903. A future right-of-way survey could use a portable shower trailer if crews stayed on location overnight. The Santa Fe line had reached town the year before, and Cushing’s population was 1,072 by 1910. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the rail sequence as a turning point in the city’s growth.

The 1912 gusher erupted nine miles east of Cushing

The oil boom began on March 17, 1912, when Thomas B. Slick brought in a gusher on the Frank M. Wheeler farm about nine miles east of town. A future field crew nearby could review a contractor sleeper trailer for a temporary base. The Oklahoma Historical Society identifies the well as the start of the Cushing-Drumright Field. The discovery site was outside the city itself.

Oil workers slept in shifts as the field filled up

Cushing was not ready for the sudden oil rush: workers rented rooms in shifts, and some slept on chairs or pool tables. A modern remote man camp facilities could be considered for a future remote crew site, with services planned around actual headcount and utilities. An estimated 276 wagons carried people to and from the field. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the housing strain as well as the oil discovery.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Cushing’s first refinery opened in 1913

Oil production centered on Drumright, but Cushing became a refining center. Consumers Oil Company opened the city’s first refinery in 1913; eventually twenty-three oil companies and five oil-field supply houses located there. If a future industrial-history crew worked on site, a portable restroom trailer could be assessed for workers. The Oklahoma Historical Society distinguishes this refining role from the field’s production.

Cushing production had fallen by more than half by 1916

The oil boom peaked in March 1915, when the field produced 8.3 million barrels. For future maintenance work in the region, a portable shower trailer could be reviewed as part of the site plan. By the end of 1916, production had fallen by more than 50 percent, though sixteen companies still operated in town in 1930. The Oklahoma Historical Society’s figures document both the boom and its uneven decline.
