Low lake water forced a different intake plan for Copan

Putting a shower and bathroom trailer beside a lake does not give it a water supply. Copan’s October 2023 emergency intake project illustrates the difference between being near water and being able to use it: the utility’s source lake had fallen six to eight feet, and mud and sediment were affecting its intake.

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board approved $85,000 for a temporary floating intake and bypass line, sediment removal, and changes to set pumps lower. For a future crew base supporting such repairs, the facilities would need a dependable supply while the intake work proceeds. Water delivery or storage and wastewater servicing should be arranged with the site team before a unit arrives.

The Santa Fe station arrived in 1899

The Santa Fe railway established a station at Copan in 1899. A future rail-history walk could use a shower and restroom combination trailer if visitors need temporary washroom facilities near a permitted gathering area. The depot name came from Copan, Honduras, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. That connection gave the town a distinctive name before its post office adopted it.

The post office changed names twice before Copan

The local post office first opened as Lawton in 1900, became Weldon in 1901, then took the Copan name in 1904. A future community archive project could consider a mobile laundry trailer for researchers working on site over several days. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the sequence, which helps distinguish the depot’s name from the earlier postal labels.

A trunk oil pipeline passed through Copan in 1904

Prairie Oil built Oklahoma’s first trunk pipeline in 1904, running a six-inch line from Bartlesville through Copan toward Humboldt, Kansas. A future pipeline inspection or maintenance crew could review a contractor sleeper trailer for temporary lodging if the work required an overnight presence nearby. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the route as part of the town’s oil history.

A large tank farm stood north of Copan

The pipeline era brought extensive storage north of Copan: the Oklahoma Historical Society reports 107 tanks, each holding 35,000 barrels. Those are historical capacity figures, not a statement about current facilities. If a future industrial-history field project examined the area, a portable shower trailer could be considered for the team after site access and utility needs were checked.

Copan Field had about 2,200 wells by 1915

The Copan oil field opened in 1907 and had about 2,200 wells by 1915, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. A future history exhibit focused on field crews might use a portable restroom trailer at an outdoor site if the host lacks permanent facilities. The count captures the scale of the early boom and should not be confused with present-day wells or production.

Project planning questions

Copan workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Copan?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Copan’s school district formed in 1906

Copan’s school district was established in 1906. The claim is attributed to the historical account; a future school-history display could consider a shower and restroom combination trailer for its grounds if permanent facilities are insufficient. The Oklahoma Historical Society also reports that horse-drawn wagons were used to transport students, describing them as Oklahoma’s first such student transport.
