The October 2021 survey recorded two different outcomes near Cooperton

On October 10, 2021, storm chasers observed a brief tornado roughly four miles south-southwest of Cooperton, with no reported damage. A separate EF1 track east of town crossed the Saddle Mountain area, where the National Weather Service recorded a destroyed trailer and damaged cemetery trees.

That distinction is useful for rural recovery planning: the town name alone does not identify the damaged property. If a future repair assignment east of Cooperton needs overnight staffing, a sleeper trailer would belong at a separately assessed accommodation site, reached by a route suitable for delivery. The exact address and access conditions would matter more than a general request for equipment “near the tornado.”

Cooperton was planned ahead of the 1901 land opening

Frank Cooper organized a settlement company and planned a town called Cooper in 1899, anticipating the 1901 opening of the Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Reservation. A future local-history program could use a portable restroom trailer if it hosted visitors outdoors. The Oklahoma Historical Society says Cooper received 320 acres for his members after the government chose a lottery instead of a run.

A registration mistake changed the town’s name

Cooper planned the settlement about two miles east of present-day Cooperton, near the Wichita Mountains. A townsite registration error and an existing Cooper in Blaine County led to the name Cooperton, the Oklahoma Historical Society explains. A future mapping project tracing the original site might consider a portable shower trailer for a crew working in the area. The small correction became the lasting place-name.

The young town counted eighteen businesses

Cooperton grew to eighteen businesses and formed a town board, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. A future interpretive project about these vanished businesses could use a shower and restroom combination trailer at an outdoor meeting point for visitors. Its early commercial mix included stores, a livery stable, drugstore, bank, hardware store, cotton gin, cigar factory, mill, blacksmith, and two hotels.

The railroad Cooperton expected never arrived

Cooperton expected a railroad, but the line never came. If a future research crew surveyed the former townsite, a contractor sleeper trailer could support overnight work where lodging is distant. The Oklahoma Historical Society notes the absence alongside the town’s early commercial growth, which makes the detail more than a minor footnote: settlement planners had counted on a connection that did not materialize.

A small general store also housed the post office

Cooperton’s first general store and post office shared a small building, placing mail and daily trade under one roof in the young settlement. For a future archival exhibit about rural mail service, organizers might assess a portable restroom trailer at the venue. The Oklahoma Historical Society records that basic arrangement before listing the larger set of businesses that followed.

The Cooperton Banner gave the town a local newspaper

The Cooperton Banner was published during the town’s early growth, alongside its school, churches, and businesses. If researchers arranged a future digitization or oral-history project, a mobile laundry trailer could be considered for an extended field crew. That newspaper offers a potential trail into everyday local life beyond the better-documented land-opening story.

Cooperton’s population peaked at 187 in 1940

The Oklahoma Historical Society records 100 residents in 1910 and a peak of 187 in 1940. Any future site work would need to plan carefully for limited nearby services; a contractor sleeper trailer is one option to review if a project crew required lodging. Later census counts fell to 106 in 1960, 31 in 1980, and just three in 2020. The changing numbers trace the long decline of a farming and ranching town.

Project planning questions

Cooperton workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Cooperton?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

A mammoth site near Cooperton remains debated

A Columbian mammoth skeleton was discovered near a tributary of the North Fork of the Red River, and the site was excavated in 1961. A future archaeological field team could consider a portable shower trailer if permitted work called for an overnight base. The Oklahoma Historical Society describes the evidence for human involvement as controversial: possible hammerstones and unusual bone fractures were reported, but some researchers doubt the interpretation because of the site’s age.

Farming and ranching remain the town’s documented setting

The Oklahoma Historical Society describes Cooperton as lying in a farming and ranching region along State Highway 54/19. For a future agricultural repair crew working outside town, a portable restroom trailer could be evaluated if the worksite lacks permanent facilities. That geographic context helps explain why the town’s first businesses included a cotton gin as well as stores and a mill.
