Colony’s Labor Day gathering runs into the evening

Colony’s 2025 Cheyenne and Arapaho Labor Day celebration was advertised with afternoon starts and events running late into the evening. For another gathering with those hours, supplemental restroom trailers could serve the people spending most of their day at the grounds, from vendors setting up to families staying for the dancing.

KGOU’s calendar listed hand games, a drum contest, food and craft vendors, and a schedule continuing through September 1 at the tribal powwow grounds. Any additional facilities would need an agreed pedestrian route that leaves the dance area and vendor access clear. The useful starting point is the organizer’s attendance estimate and the bathrooms already available on the grounds.

John Seger arrived with Arapaho families in 1886

The settlement that became Colony began with John Seger’s arrival in 1886 alongside Arapaho people; Cheyenne families later joined them. A future community-history gathering could consider a portable restroom trailer for visitors, with the event planned in consultation with the people whose history it represents. By 1887, the group numbered more than 500, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Seger’s settlement grew before the town moved west

The first Colony community formed around Seger’s settlement, with more than 500 people reported there by 1887. A future interpretive route connecting them might use a contractor sleeper trailer for staff who need to stay near a multi-day program. The later townsite grew roughly four miles west, so the Colony name covers two closely linked locations rather than one unchanged footprint.

Native students made bricks for a 1892 school

In 1892, the first brick buildings in Washita County were built for an Indian industrial school at Seger. A future research crew could plan a portable shower trailer if its fieldwork required an overnight stay. The Oklahoma Historical Society says Native students made the bricks and stonework under Seger’s direction. This record deserves careful context: it documents the labor and institution, not a celebratory construction story.

A dangerous creek crossing changed the 1892 land opening

During the 1892 land opening, more than 2,000 prospective settlers were allowed inside the boundary early because crossing Cobb Creek was considered dangerous. If a future history walk followed the route, organizers could assess a portable restroom trailer at a safe gathering point away from the creek. The decision is part of the regional land-opening history recorded by the Oklahoma Historical Society.

A Dutch Reformed mission opened near Seger in 1895

A Dutch Reformed mission was established in the area in 1895, adding another institution to the settlement around Seger. For a future archive or preservation project at the historic location, a shower and restroom combination trailer could be considered after confirming access. The Oklahoma Historical Society places the mission within the same period as the formation of Colony’s early community, but does not describe it as the present-day town center.

The Colony post office was approved in 1896

The post office called Colony was approved in 1896 at the original Seger site. Meanwhile, the townsite was growing westward, and most residents eventually moved the roughly four miles to the newer location. The Oklahoma Historical Society’s account makes the postal name part of a broader story of relocation. A future tour between the sites could evaluate a portable restroom trailer for participants.

Colony School District 109 formed in 1912

After the mission school closed, Colony School District 109 was organized in July 1912. If a future classroom renovation required work during a school break, a portable restroom trailer could be considered for tradespeople where permanent facilities were closed. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the date as a local education milestone and a transfer of schooling into a district structure.

Project planning questions

Colony workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Colony?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

The Seger school closed in 1932

The school at Seger closed in 1932, another marker in the transition from the original settlement to Colony’s later institutions. A future archival team documenting the school’s history could use a contractor sleeper trailer if work at remote records or sites called for overnight accommodation. The Oklahoma Historical Society places that closure before the district’s eventual consolidation with Corn decades later.

Colony schools later consolidated with Corn

In the 1970s, Colony’s school system consolidated with Corn, the Oklahoma Historical Society reports. The decision joined two rural school communities and extended a story that began with the mission school and Colony District 109. If a future alumni reunion brought the communities together outdoors, organizers could assess a shower and restroom combination trailer for attendees who need washroom access.
