Cole’s April 2023 tornado left a path across McClain County

The April 19, 2023 tornado did not stop at Cole’s town boundary. The National Weather Service traced the EF3 storm from north of Dibble, through Cole, toward Goldsby. Its survey describes extensive damage in and near Cole, within a wider outbreak of 18 documented tornadoes.

That spread matters when choosing a recovery base. If an incoming repair team needs to stay near several properties, temporary sleeper units could put accommodation at an approved staging site rather than beside each damaged home. Showers and wastewater service would have to be arranged there too. The useful location is one crews can reach after the storm, with space for servicing and a clear route back to the day’s work.

Railroad construction preceded Cole’s town plat

The Oklahoma Central Railway laid tracks through the area in 1906; Cole itself was platted six years later, near the line. A future rail-corridor preservation crew working nearby could consider a contractor sleeper trailer for a short-term base after confirming the property and utility arrangements. That sequence helps explain why the townsite emerged where it did.

Cole’s post office opened in April 1912

The town’s post office opened on April 2, 1912, shortly after Cole was platted. If a future local-history exhibit used an outdoor venue, organizers could plan a portable restroom trailer for visitors when permanent facilities are not available. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the date in its account of a small railroad community whose central institutions served nearby farms.

A cotton gin anchored Cole’s early commercial life

Cole’s early business district included a cotton gin and general store, linking farm production with the town’s rail connection. If an agricultural heritage program ever demonstrated historic processing, a shower and restroom combination trailer could support staff at an outdoor site, subject to water and waste access. The Oklahoma Historical Society describes those operations as part of the community’s early economy.

Rail service ended on the branch in 1942

The railway that helped establish Cole was abandoned in 1942. The Oklahoma Historical Society’s timeline follows the line from its 1906 construction through its eventual closure, a reminder that transport infrastructure can outlast the boom that brought it. If a future right-of-way cleanup were organized, a portable restroom trailer could serve a temporary work area where crews lack nearby facilities.

Postal service ended in Cole in 1954

Cole’s post office closed in 1954, four decades after the Santa Fe takeover and twelve years after the rail line was abandoned. A future archival survey of former civic sites could use a mobile laundry trailer for a traveling crew only if the work actually required an extended stay. The Oklahoma Historical Society records that local change alongside the town’s later municipal history.

Cole incorporated in 1962 and reorganized in 1975

Cole incorporated in 1962, later became inactive, and reorganized in 1975, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. If a town facility ever underwent a multi-stage renovation, a portable restroom trailer could be considered to keep workers and visitors served during the work. The sequence shows local government resuming after an earlier period of inactivity.

Project planning questions

Cole workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Cole?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

A cooperative gin and gristmill served mid-century farmers

By the middle of the twentieth century, Cole had a cooperative gin and gristmill, extending the town’s farm-service role beyond its first general store. The Oklahoma Historical Society records these facilities as part of the local economy. A future restoration crew working on agricultural equipment could consider a contractor sleeper trailer if the site were remote and overnight lodging were needed.

The 2020 census counted 621 people in Cole

Cole had 621 residents in the 2020 Census, the latest count cited by the Oklahoma Historical Society’s town entry. If a future public meeting or town celebration were held outdoors, a portable restroom trailer could be assessed for the venue’s expected attendance and existing amenities. The figure gives the community a clear present-day scale alongside its railroad-era origins.
