Castle’s September 1999 storm brought wind damage as well as a tornado

Castle was part of a damaging storm corridor on September 10, 1999. The National Weather Service recorded an F1 tornado north and east of town, while separate thunderstorm winds damaged trees in Castle and continued toward Okemah and Weleetka. The tornado report describes a mobile home losing its roof near Highway 48 and several destroyed barns.

For a future rural repair job after damage of that kind, the first accommodation question is which property remains accessible. A contractor sleeper trailer could house an incoming crew at an approved base, but delivery should follow a check of the approach roads, overhead obstructions and utilities. The 1999 report separates the tornado track from the wider wind damage, a useful distinction when locating the actual work rather than relying on a nearby town name.

Castle’s post office opened on February 25, 1903

Castle was named for its first postmaster, Manford B. Castle, and its post office opened on February 25, 1903. The date marks the town's formal place in the early twentieth-century settlement landscape. For a future road or utility crew working near the town, 12-foot restroom trailer could be considered at an approved staging point.

Rail service supported Castle’s cotton gins and gristmills

Castle lay along the Fort Smith and Western Railway. By 1911 the town supported several cotton gins, gristmills, and Castle State Bank. The combination reflects a farm-service hub rather than a single-industry settlement. A future grain or machinery repair could consider portable handwashing station for workers, subject to the operator's site and servicing plan.

Three builders completed Castle’s first church in 1908

John Bakhaus, John McKernon, and Oscar Larimore built Castle's first church in 1908. The record preserves the names of local builders as well as the date. For a future church repair or community event, 12-foot restroom trailer could be planned only if the congregation and site manager identify a safe location.

The Castle News served Black readers in 1908

The Castle News began publishing in 1908 under editors S. H. Austin and J. Y. Bryce and served Castle's African American population. Its existence belongs in the local record as a Black community newspaper, not just a generic small-town paper. A future archival exhibit could use office and sleeper trailer for temporary staff and equipment while original issues remain protected.

Castle’s first federal census recorded 294 residents

The first federal census reported for Castle counted 294 residents in 1910; the town reached 381 in 1920. Those numbers capture a period of early growth when farms, cotton processing, and railway service all mattered. For a future public event during a similar busy season, 14-foot restroom trailer could supplement existing facilities if organizers identify a need.

Ranching and general farming surrounded Castle

The area around Castle supported both ranching and general farming. OHS names ranchers John McKernon and Jerry Mosely and the Ward-Strauss ranch as examples, while identifying cotton and sweet potatoes as cash crops. A future fence, storage, or field-repair crew could consider shared sleeper trailer for overnight rotations if a suitable property is available.

Five cotton gins operated around Castle in 1930

When Castle's population stood at 283 in 1930, the surrounding area still supported five cotton gins and one gristmill. That is a precise snapshot of the farm-processing network during a period of wider economic strain. For a future seasonal repair at a gin or mill, 22-foot shower trailer could be assessed once the operator confirms utilities and placement.

Project planning questions

Castle workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Castle?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Oil wells were drilled in the East Castle pool in the 1940s

Oil exploration added another chapter when wells were drilled in the East Castle pool during the 1940s. The timing followed decades in which cotton, sweet potatoes, and ranching had dominated the local economy. A future permitted energy-site inspection could use 14-foot restroom trailer if officials approve a safe staging location.

Castle’s 2020 census count was 171

The 2020 census counted 171 people in Castle, after several decades in which the town's population shifted up and down. OHS reports a low of 94 in 1990 and a count of 122 in 2000 before the later increase. If a future community gathering uses a town venue with limited fixed facilities, 12-foot restroom trailer could be considered after organizers check what is already available.
