Carney lay on a three-county tornado track in May 2013

The May 19, 2013 tornado that reached Carney began northwest of Luther and continued toward Tryon. The National Weather Service's final table gives a 21-mile path through Oklahoma, Logan, and Lincoln counties, with an EF3 rating and four injuries. Its route passed through southeastern Carney.

A response following a track like that cannot be organized around a town boundary alone. If repair teams are assigned overnight, crew sleeper units could be located at a shared support property with access to more than one part of the damaged corridor.

The NWS records several separate tornadoes that afternoon. Carney's was distinct from the later EF4 tornado affecting the Lake Thunderbird and Shawnee area. Keeping that distinction clear matters when deciding which damage reports, access restrictions, and recovery arrangements actually apply to a Carney job.

Carney took its name from surveyor Carney Staples

The town was named for surveyor Carney Staples, and a post office opened there on April 9, 1892, with Addie Staples as postmaster. The paired details make the naming record concrete. If a future local-history project involves a temporary visitor area, 12-foot restroom trailer could support guests after organizers check the site's permanent facilities.

Two railroads served Carney by 1904

Two railroads reached Carney by 1904, improving the town's connection to agricultural markets. The lines helped local businesses reach beyond Lincoln County while making Carney a service point for nearby farms. For a future rail or road maintenance crew, 14-foot restroom trailer could be placed at an approved staging site away from active traffic.

Carney opened a bank in 1902

A bank opened in Carney in 1902, ahead of the town's two-railroad milestone. That institution joined the stores and farm services that made the community a local trade point. During a future downtown utility job, 12-foot restroom trailer could give contractors bathroom access without using a neighboring business.

Carney built a two-story brick school in 1910

Carney replaced earlier schooling with a two-story brick school in 1910. The building marked a substantial civic investment during the period when rail and farm trade supported the town. If a future campus improvement moves construction beyond the usual maintenance window, shower and restroom combination trailer could be planned for workers at a separate base.

Carney adopted Lincoln County’s first one-cent sales tax

Carney was the first municipality in Lincoln County to adopt a one-cent sales tax, in 1910. The local decision predates modern sales-tax systems but shows the town's early use of a dedicated revenue tool. For a future street or water project funded through local revenues, portable handwashing station could support workers if the contract and site plan allow.

A World War I doughboy statue appeared in Carney’s park in 1933

In 1933, Carney placed a statue of a World War I doughboy in its central park. OHS describes the monument as a folk-art work from the Depression era, when small towns found ways to mark local service. For a future dedication or conservation project, 14-foot restroom trailer could be considered if the park's existing facilities are not sufficient.

Carney’s Rock of Ages statue became another Depression-era landmark

The Rock of Ages statue is another distinctive Carney monument recorded in OHS's history. Together with the doughboy, it gives the town's public landscape a pair of works from the 1930s. If a future preservation crew works on either monument, portable handwashing station can be considered at an exterior staging point to keep the site clean.

Project planning questions

Carney workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Carney?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Oil and gas added to Carney’s economy in the later twentieth century

Oil and gas activity in the field around Carney contributed to the town's later economy, alongside its earlier farm and rail history. The OHS account describes a change in the local mix rather than a single boom date. A future permitted pipeline or well-maintenance crew might consider contractor sleeper trailer for overnight stays at a suitable property.
