Carmen's meter project reaches across the town

Carmen's fiscal 2026 funded-project entry calls for 100 automatic-read water meters, software, and a data collector. The NODA list records a $219,090 total budget and $97,495 REAP award.

Meter installation is dispersed work. A temporary restroom trailer at an agreed assembly yard could serve a contractor team without placing a unit beside a household's meter box. Crews can move from address to address while breaks and routine servicing return to the support point. The yard's location should follow the day's work areas and the team's access needs, so the practical arrangements fit a town-wide installation rather than a single fenced construction site.

Carmen’s townsite lots first sold in December 1900

The Mutual Townsite Company laid out New Augusta, the settlement that became Carmen, and sold lots in December 1900 as a railroad route was planned through Alfalfa County. The sale drew businesses from nearby Augusta before the line arrived. For a future street or utility project near the original townsite, 14-foot restroom trailer can be considered at a permitted staging area.

Businesses moved from Old Augusta to the new Carmen site

Many businesses from nearby Augusta moved to New Augusta in anticipation of rail service, even though the two settlements coexisted for several years. When the Choctaw Northern reached Old Augusta in 1901, its own townsite company tried to draw merchants back. The episode shows how rail access shaped commercial choices; 24-foot mobile laundry trailer could support workers on a comparable future infrastructure job.

A tornado killed three people in Carmen on May 23, 1903

A tornado struck Carmen on the evening of May 23, 1903, destroying much of the fledgling town’s wood-frame construction. OHS records three deaths and 150 injuries. Residents rebuilt with brick buildings and churches. After any future, verified recovery project, 22-foot shower trailer could support authorized crews at a safe staging site; this is a modern planning example, not a claim about the 1903 response.

A second railway helped Carmen recover after the 1903 tornado

The Arkansas Valley and Western Railway completed its Enid-to-Avard line through Carmen in early 1904, helping the town recover and expand its role as a wheat-shipping center. Rail access supported rebuilding, but it did not erase the tornado's losses. For a future track-side repair, contractor sleeper trailer could help keep an overnight crew close to its work zone.

Carmen competed for Alfalfa County’s seat in 1907

At statehood in 1907, Carmen was among the communities seeking to become the new county seat; Cherokee won the selection. That decision placed county government elsewhere while Carmen continued as an agricultural shipping and business center. During a future civic project that brings temporary staff to town, office and sleeper trailer could provide separate work space if the organizer's needs justify it.

Carmen had a flour mill, creamery, bottling works, and ice plant by 1909

By 1909, Carmen's business list included a flour mill, creamery, three grain elevators, bottling works, and an ice plant. The mix shows a town processing and storing farm products, not simply shipping raw grain. If a future food-facility repair restricted employee areas, shower and restroom combination trailer could serve a contractor zone subject to plant sanitation rules.

The Odd Fellows Home north of Carmen cared for more than a thousand youths

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows built a home about a mile north of Carmen in 1906–07 on land donated by local residents. It served more than a thousand youths before closing in 1944 and is listed on the National Register. Because the property is outside town and historically significant, portable handwashing station belongs only in a hypothetical, approved exterior work plan.

Project planning questions

Carmen workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Carmen?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Carmen and Dacoma combined their public schools in 1968

Carmen and neighboring Dacoma consolidated their public schools in 1968, when the combined enrollment stood at 250 students. The merger is a regional education decision, not a building project inside Carmen alone. If a future district construction phase places contractors near an active campus, 14-foot restroom trailer could serve a separated work zone.

Carmen residents raised funds for a granite veterans memorial

A 1990s fundraising effort produced a granite war memorial in a Carmen city park honoring local veterans. The OHS record describes a community project built through local contributions, rather than a municipal construction contract. For a future memorial dedication or park repair, 12-foot restroom trailer could be considered if the site’s existing facilities do not meet the event plan.
