Bromide had two names before it took its present one

The Johnston County town was first called Juanita from 1905 to 1906, then Zenobia from 1906 to 1907, before adopting Bromide. It incorporated in July 1908. The name referred to nearby mineral springs, which later drew visitors by rail. A future town-center restoration crew could use restroom trailer for a future downtown restoration crew at its approved staging location.

A Chickasaw school superintendent helped establish Bromide

Judge William H. Jackson, a former superintendent of Wapanucka Academy, organized the Jackson Land Company and established Bromide’s townsite. The OHS account connects his decision to develop a visitor destination around the mineral springs. office trailer for a future community-site project team could support a future public-site project in town, not the original land company.

A 1911 rail spur carried stone out of Bromide

The Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway built three miles east of town in 1910; a spur reached Bromide the following year. The new connection mattered because Bromide’s limestone quarry had become one of its largest businesses and stone was a principal export. On an unrelated future quarry-site contract, mobile shower trailer for a future quarry maintenance crew could give workers a nearby shower point.

The Galbreath Hotel was built from local limestone in 1912

Tulsa oilman Robert Galbreath used native limestone to build Bromide’s three-story hotel in 1912. The building later housed the Bromide State Bank, giving one structure two different roles in the town’s history. If a future historic-building repair brings in tradespeople, portable restroom trailer for a future historic-building repair crew could provide restroom access at the approved work boundary.

Excursion trains brought spring-seekers to Bromide

The Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf and later Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf railways ran weekly excursion trains to Bromide, promoted as a health resort. Visitors came for the town’s sulphur and bromide springs, hotels, bathhouse, and swimming pool. restroom trailer for a future visitor-site project crew could help a future event or visitor-site contractor working in the area, subject to a permitted location.

Four hotels served Bromide’s early resort trade

At its height as a destination, Bromide supported four hotels as well as a bathhouse and swimming pool. The OHS account describes the resort’s services without making a medical claim about the water. For future renovation work on a visitor property, office and sleeper trailer for a future hospitality renovation crew could keep facilities available to the contractor away from guests.

Quarrying made stone one of Bromide’s leading exports

Bromide’s first large business was a limestone quarry east of town, and a rock crusher also operated northwest of the community. The 1911 rail spur gave the local stone trade a route to outside markets. A future quarry or road-maintenance assignment could use handwashing station for a future stone-site contractor near a designated crew break area.

Cotton and milling remained part of Bromide’s economy

Tourism did not replace agriculture: cotton remained important, and Bromide also had a cotton gin, gristmill, lumber mill, and flour mill. The record shows a small town serving both visitors and nearby farms. For a future agricultural-equipment repair job, sleeper trailer for a future agricultural repair team could support the crew at its own approved base.

Bromide’s resort traffic faded during the 1920s

The spring-resort era declined during the 1920s. By the start of the Great Depression, excursion trains had stopped and the town’s bank and hotels had closed. portable restroom trailer for a future property rehabilitation crew might be relevant to a future rehabilitation project on a surviving property, but the OHS record documents a decline in visitation rather than a modern restoration.

The railway line through Bromide was abandoned in 1950

After the resort business ebbed, the Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf line through Bromide was abandoned in 1950. The rail connection that once brought weekly excursions and carried quarry stone had disappeared from the town’s transport network.
