A post office put Arnett on the map in 1902

A brick courthouse replaced Arnett’s frame county office

The National Register record places the Ellis County Courthouse on Arnett’s town square and dates it to 1912, after a four-year county-seat contest. The three-story brick building is described as Neoclassical and remains a courthouse.

A future preservation project around an occupied public building would have to keep the entrance usable. A restroom trailer for courthouse work could serve an approved construction access point while work proceeds.

A proposed railroad to Arnett never reached the tracks

In 1908–09, Arnett residents joined Texans from Dalhart and Higgins to organize the Mountain Valley and Plains Railroad Company. Arnett began replacing 8,500 feet of water main

On May 17, 2024, Arnett’s town supervisor announced that water-main replacement had started. The town warned residents construction would be messy. The 2012 Woodward tornado track began south of Arnett

The NWS Ellis County record lists the April 14, 2012 EF3 track as beginning two miles south-southwest of Arnett and continuing through Woodward.
