Arkoma’s south-side line replacement received state funding

Arkoma’s November 30, 2023 funding announcement concerned two systems under the same streets: replacement sewer mains and a new water main on the south side of town. OWRB approved $1 million through its ARPA grant program. If a later connection requires temporary bathrooms, a portable bathroom trailer must be planned around which of those services will actually be isolated.

The board identified aged mains and deteriorating manholes as reasons unwanted water was entering the sewer network. Replacing those mains and installing the water line were the stated uses of the funds. For a business arranging facilities during such work, distinguishing a water shutoff from a sewer closure is essential: one changes the supply plan, while the other changes where waste can go.

Design work for an aging lift station

Arkoma received a $400,000 fully forgiven Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan in August 2024 for wastewater planning and design. The state’s annual report described an aging lift station, including pumps, electrical equipment and telemetry, plus sewer-system inspection. Arkoma collects wastewater locally while treatment has been provided across the state line in Fort Smith; the award funded preparation for improvements rather than certifying a finished station. A lift-station job could put crews beside live wastewater infrastructure for days at a time. If they need an off-network hygiene point, a crew shower-restroom trailer should be specified with its own water and waste-servicing plan. The details would depend on the final construction design, not the planning loan alone.

A 115-manhole repair plan for Arkoma’s sewer network

Arkoma’s municipal authority received approval for a $500,000 Oklahoma Water Resources Board loan in November 2021 to repair or replace 115 manholes across its wastewater collection system. Cracks and leaks can let rainwater into sewer lines; because Arkoma sends its wastewater to Fort Smith for treatment, the board said reducing that extra flow could also reduce treatment expense. The release describes approved financing and intended work, not a completion report.

A network-wide manhole program moves from street to street instead of staying beside one building. A sewer-crew restroom trailer stationed at a permitted crew yard could give workers a fixed stop between sites, while its waste service stays separate from the collection system under repair. Its size and placement would follow the actual contractor schedule, which the funding notice does not supply.

Arkoma studies treating its own wastewater

A May 2026 Fort Smith staff report said Arkoma was working with the Choctaw Nation’s water-resource team on a municipal wastewater lagoon. The report described a possible property purchase, permit work and preliminary engineering for a system serving about 600 customers. It was a development path under discussion, not a completed treatment plant or final agreement.

If the project reaches construction, a lagoon site would need worker facilities while permanent utilities are still being built. A lagoon-construction restroom trailer belongs in that early site plan alongside access for earthmoving equipment, potable water and waste servicing. Those choices depend on the selected land and permits; the report does not establish a construction start.

A first step toward safer walking routes

Arkoma’s $50,000 TSET award in 2025 was for a feasibility study, the first step toward deciding whether a multi-use trail could safely connect parts of town. If surveyors work repeatedly from a roadside base, a field-team restroom trailer can serve that field team without requiring an assumed trail alignment.

The trust’s board minutes describe goals of safer walking and more physical activity. They do not fund or announce construction of the trail itself. Any future staging area would be chosen after the study identifies the corridor and its access constraints.

Sidewalk plans beginning at Cook Avenue

ODOT’s 2024 awarded plan set for Arkoma shows pedestrian improvements along SH-112/SH-9A, beginning at Cook Avenue and extending northeast through town. The 0.625-mile design includes sidewalk, crossings and ramps. Those plans are a concrete record of the intended work; they do not by themselves verify when every segment opened to walkers.

Working along a main street leaves little room for storage or worker breaks. A sidewalk-crew restroom trailer would need to sit beyond the pedestrian detour and utility work, while allowing a service vehicle to stop safely.

The crossing design is the reason site access matters as much as worker headcount.

Power lines down after the June 3 storm

The National Weather Service logged damaging thunderstorm wind 1.1 miles southeast of Arkoma on June 3, 2023. An emergency manager reported downed power lines and snapped large tree limbs. The report locates the damage near town; it does not establish how many homes lost electricity or how long repairs took.

Power-line restoration is a job for qualified crews, often with restricted work areas. If a prolonged staging point is needed, a utility-crew restroom trailer must be outside the utility exclusion zone yet close enough for workers to use during breaks. The storm record explains the field conditions without implying a past rental.

Trees fell in Arkoma before dawn

At 1:40 a.m. on May 7, 2024, severe thunderstorm wind brought down trees in Arkoma, according to an emergency-manager report published by the National Weather Service. It came during a wider overnight line of storms in eastern Oklahoma, but the local observation is simply the fallen trees. The weather record does not assign a townwide damage total. Tree-removal crews may begin while normal businesses are closed and work into the following day. For a sustained cleanup, a cleanup-crew restroom trailer could stay at an approved base through both shifts, rather than following the saws along each street. Electrical hazards and traffic control would govern placement first.

Project planning questions

Arkoma workforce facility FAQs.

What should I include in an Arkoma crew enquiry?

Send the job address, dates and number of workers. Tell us whether people will stay overnight and which bathrooms, showers or laundry facilities are already available for them.

Can I discuss facilities for a worksite and a separate lodging address?

Include both properties in the enquiry. The worksite and overnight location may need different facilities, and we'll review the available access and connections at each.

What information helps with delivery planning?

Entrance photos, gate details and a view of the proposed placement area help us review access. Include any road or site restrictions affecting delivery and service vehicles, as well as the connections available at the property.

Another morning of limb and line damage

The National Weather Service recorded a second, separate Arkoma-area wind event on June 26, 2024. Fire and rescue personnel reported snapped large limbs and downed power lines roughly eight-tenths of a mile east of town at 7:52 a.m. The report estimated about $2,000 in property damage for that point, without describing a widespread outage.

When a cleanup crew and utility crew share a staging area, their routes must stay clear of one another.

A portable handwashing station can be useful after handling storm debris, but it needs clean supply and collected wastewater, especially where electrical work restricts movement around the site.

A parade planned for Arkoma’s December evening

Arkoma’s official events page lists a Christmas tree lighting at Town Hall for Saturday, December 5, 2026. The posted plan starts the parade at 5 p.m. and the lighting at 6 p.m. As of October, it is a scheduled community event, so attendance and weather remain unknown.

A dusk parade draws people to the same streets used by floats and service vehicles. If the town expects a crowd beyond Town Hall’s facilities, a holiday-event restroom trailer would need a visible, lit location outside the parade path. Setup and pickup times should follow the street-closure plan rather than the one-hour gap between parade and lighting.
