Cherokee Nation awarded the Hulbert EMS-building expansion

The Cherokee Nation procurement page lists Hickory Construction Services as awardee at $497,735 for the Hulbert Marshal/EMS Building expansion. The bid covered work at 410 S. Rogers Avenue, and the solicitation required completion within 180 days after a Notice to Proceed. A portable restroom trailer could support an authorized construction crew during a tight work window.

The award amount and deadline do not establish the actual start date or current completion status. This is a public-safety facility expansion, not an unrelated medical-project contract.

The EMS project included a mandatory site visit

The Cherokee Nation’s 2025 bid notice required interested contractors to visit the Hulbert Marshal/EMS Building before submitting. The posted procurement window ran from October 22 through November 17, 2025, and the public opening was set for November 17. If future work needs crews across extended shifts, a contractor sleeper trailer could support rest near the permitted site.

The bid instructions also state that Indian Preference applied and that contractors needed the relevant Cherokee Nation TERO certification to receive preference. The requirement belongs to this specific tribal procurement and should not be generalized to every job in Hulbert.

Hulbert began around a store and grist mill

Ben E. Hulbert built a store and grist mill in 1890 on land that had been a peach orchard, according to OHS. Oral history says the town was later named for him. A portable restroom trailer could be placed at a future approved local-history event explaining how a trading point grew into a town.

The community shifted east by three-quarters of a mile after the turn of the century, influenced by an already-established railroad. The present townsite therefore reflects both the early store and later transportation decisions.

The post office opened in 1903

Hulbert’s post office was established on May 4, 1903, as the community relocated toward the railway. OHS notes the Ozark and Cherokee Central line was already shaping the new townsite. At a future walking tour, a portable handwashing station could serve interpreters and visitors while they follow the old settlement’s eastward shift.

This is a postal milestone rather than the date the original trading post began; the source places that earlier store in 1890. Keeping the dates separate avoids compressing a decade of local development into one founding year.

A bank has served Hulbert since 1908

The Bank of Cherokee County traces its continuous operation to a bank founded in Hulbert in 1908 by Howell C. King, OHS reports. Long-lived local institutions can anchor small-town continuity even as population and business mixes change. A portable restroom trailer could help with a future anniversary gathering or public financial-literacy event at an approved venue.

Rail service later contracted: passenger trains stopped in 1940 and freight service ended in 1942. The town’s banking history persisted beyond those transportation losses, so the two timelines should be read separately.

Rail service shaped Hulbert’s relocation and later decline

Hulbert’s present site lies about three-quarters of a mile east of Double Spring Creek, where residents moved after the turn of the twentieth century. OHS connects that move to the Frisco predecessor line. If an authorized trackside or municipal maintenance crew works nearby today, a contractor sleeper trailer might help staff a longer shift.

The same source says passenger service ended in 1940 and freight service in 1942; the Fort Gibson Dam construction and Depression also contributed to population decline. No current rail service is implied.

Hulbert incorporated in 1965

Residents voted to incorporate Hulbert on January 18, 1965; the state later certified it as a city in 1996. OHS says incorporation made civic development easier. A temporary shower-restroom trailer could support a future community meeting or public-safety training day at a venue where fixed facilities are limited.

The town’s volunteer fire department dates to 1968, only a few years after incorporation. The sequence shows how municipal organization and local services developed in distinct steps.

Hulbert Days is linked to nearby Sequoyah State Park

OHS notes Hulbert celebrates Hulbert Days in summer and hosts a December Festival of Trees. It also identifies Sequoyah State Park, about eight miles west on Highway 51, as a local recreational draw. For a future outdoor festival or public program, a portable restroom trailer could add capacity near the approved gathering area.

The source reports the annual traditions as of its publication and the park’s proximity; it does not provide a current event calendar or a count of visitors. The product reference is prospective event planning only.

What information helps plan a project in Cherokee County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

A business park and city park joined Hulbert’s civic landscape

By the start of the twenty-first century, OHS says local entrepreneurs had created a business park while a city park was also part of the community’s amenities. A future volunteer cleanup or park improvement day could use a portable handwashing station station near tool and material handling.

The same historical profile describes a library expansion plan and a newly established health clinic at that time. Those are dated statements, so they should not be used as current facility-status claims without newer records.

Hulbert’s Marshal/EMS facility is distinct from its older civic history

The 2025 Cherokee Nation bid project names the Marshal/EMS Building at 410 S. Rogers Avenue. The expansion is separate from the town’s volunteer fire department history and from its 1960s incorporation. A temporary shower-restroom trailer might support an authorized inspection team if the facility work requires long onsite days.

Procurement status alone cannot verify that the addition is complete. The Nation’s listing gives an award amount, while the town history provides background on how Hulbert’s public services developed over time.
