Haskell received a 2025 award to resurface Airport Road

Oklahoma Commerce's 2025 INCOG REAP list awards $100,000 toward resurfacing half a mile of Airport Road, from Highway 72 to the airport. The public record describes the intended improvement and award, not a completion date. If an authorized construction crew needs a temporary base, a contractor sleeper trailer could support lodging near the work area.

Because the road is outside the town's historic center, it is best described as an access project serving the Haskell area rather than a downtown paving job.

ODOT invited Haskell residents to review US-64 plans

ODOT scheduled an open house at Haskell City Hall on October 29, 2024, to discuss proposed improvements to 7.5 miles of US-64 from near the Tulsa-Wagoner County line to SH-104/Franklin Street. The plan included adding shoulders, realigning driveways and intersections, and improving the US-64/SH-104 junction.

A future project field team could use a contractor sleeper trailer if later work requires overnight staff at an approved location. The meeting was for public input; the notice does not report construction completion.

A proposed US-64 plan targeted the SH-104 junction

Among the US-64 improvements presented for public comment in 2024 was work at the intersection with SH-104, also known as Franklin Street. ODOT's plan also included shoulders and driveway realignment along the larger 7.5-mile segment. The intersection is an important detail because the project was not simply a resurfacing plan; it addressed safety and access points along the corridor.

For a future authorized road crew, a portable restroom trailer could serve an approved work zone during a separate construction phase.

Sawokla stood about a mile and a half from Haskell

One and a half miles southwest of Haskell was Sawokla, a Muscogee Creek Nation town whose name means 'gathering place.' It had a post office, store, and cotton gin before two of its businesses relocated to Haskell after the Midland Valley Railroad arrived. Sawokla's story adds a neighboring community to Haskell's early history rather than treating the town as an isolated settlement.

A future regional history program could use a portable restroom trailer at its selected venue.

Sawokla was the hometown of Creek chief Samuel Checote

OHS identifies Sawokla as the hometown of Samuel Checote, who later became principal chief of the Creek Nation. The nearby town also had its own post office and store before the Midland Valley Railroad helped shift businesses toward Haskell. A future cultural-history event could use a portable restroom trailer at the gathering site, with local partners guiding interpretation.

These details connect Haskell's growth to Muscogee communities already present in the area.

President Roosevelt appointed Haskell's first postmaster

In 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt established Haskell's first post office by appointing Nat Lambertson as postmaster. The town took its name from Charles N. Haskell, the first governor of Oklahoma and a promoter of the townsite company.

A future local-history display could use a portable restroom trailer near the event entrance. Postal service and the namesake's political prominence gave the young community a clear civic identity.

Haskell's first store opened in a tent

S. Beshara and Brothers established Haskell's first store in a tent. Other early businesses included a general and hardware store, a mill and elevator, and four banks organized between 1904 and 1905. That rapid commercial buildout shows how a townsite became a service center soon after the post office and railroad arrived.

A future downtown heritage day could use a portable restroom trailer for visitors at a designated public venue.

Rail service helped Haskell farmers ship crops east and north

The Midland Valley Railroad gave local farmers a route to ship grain, hay, corn, melons, and cotton to northern and eastern markets. That access helped agricultural activity grow before oil and gas discoveries in 1910 began a new boom. The sequence shows transportation and resource development acting as separate forces in Haskell's early economy.

A future agriculture event could use a portable handwashing station station near food handling or produce demonstrations.

Yes. Share how the units need to work together, along with placement, utility, delivery access, and servicing requirements. Final configuration and availability are confirmed for the project.

What information helps plan a project in Muskogee County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

Oil and gas growth raised Haskell's population by 1920

After oil and gas were discovered in 1910, Haskell entered a period of major growth. By 1920 its population had reached 2,196, and the town had paved streets, concrete sidewalks, electric lights, natural gas lines, and water works. If a future utility crew performs authorized upgrades, a contractor sleeper trailer may support workers at a permitted base.

These improvements show how an energy boom translated into municipal infrastructure as well as new residents.

The turnpike bypass changed Haskell's commercial traffic

When the Tulsa-Muskogee Turnpike bypassed Haskell in 1969, local businesses lost revenue, according to OHS. The change illustrates a lasting tradeoff in transportation planning: a faster regional route can improve through travel while diverting customers from a town's main corridor.

A future road-side event could use a portable restroom trailer if its site plan calls for visitor facilities. It is a dated effect, not a description of current business conditions.
