River, Quincy and Vine streets: replace the pipes before the pavement

Replace the water lines, then renew the streets: that was the sequence in Commerce’s March 2025 project announcement. It is also a reason to plan a construction restroom trailer separately for a future contractor compound. The bathroom’s water supply should not disappear when the crew disconnects the pipe it is replacing.

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board approved $931,320 for leaking lines along River, Quincy and Vine streets, with a scope covering more than 7,200 feet of new pipe ahead of street renewal. As excavation moves, the crew base needs to remain accessible. Barriers, stored materials and changing work areas all affect whether a service vehicle can still reach the facilities.

Hattonville grew around a mine opened in 1906

The settlement that became Commerce first went by Hattonville, growing after the Emma Gordon mine opened in 1906. A future industrial-history program near former mine sites could consider a portable restroom trailer for visitors, with access determined by the property owner. The Oklahoma Historical Society places mining at the center of the town’s early growth.

Commerce received its name in 1914

The community’s first post office was called North Miami, but the name changed to Commerce by June 1914. For a future walking tour about the mining settlement, a shower and restroom combination trailer could be considered if the route needs temporary facilities. A second North Miami existed elsewhere, prompting the distinction. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the name change in the same year the town was platted.

Commerce adopted a mayor-council government by 1916

Commerce had a mayor-council form of city government by 1916, just two years after its town plat. If a future municipal construction project required a temporary work site, a portable restroom trailer could help workers maintain access while permanent facilities were being repaired. The Oklahoma Historical Society describes a fast-growing mining community with civic institutions keeping pace with the population.

An interurban railway served the mining district

An interurban railway began service in the area in 1908–09 and was electrified in 1921 to serve miners. A future rail-history crew working a multi-day survey could consider a contractor sleeper trailer for a remote overnight base after confirming site logistics. The Oklahoma Historical Society’s account places this line alongside Commerce’s mines, hotels, and theaters.

Commerce had two banks and two theaters in 1918

Commerce’s mining boom supported a dense business district: by 1918 the town had two banks, two theaters, two hotels, and two newspapers. If a future downtown heritage weekend revisited that period, organizers could assess a portable restroom trailer for outdoor crowds. Those figures are a snapshot from a particular year, not a description of the town today.

Federal cleanup work followed decades of mining

Commerce became part of the Tar Creek mining-contamination story, and the Environmental Protection Agency placed the site within its Superfund program in 1983. The Oklahoma Historical Society links the town’s later environmental history to the mining era. The cleanup is a separate federal program; if an approved contractor ever needed temporary crew facilities nearby, a portable restroom trailer could be assessed for that future project.

Project planning questions

Commerce workforce facility FAQs.

Can you help plan a man camp near Commerce?

Send us the address, dates, and number of people staying. Tell us who will share sleeping space and which portable shower, bathroom, and laundry facilities you need. We'll discuss the available layouts with you.

Can I ask for a portable bathroom or shower on its own?

Tell us which facility you need and what is already available at the property. We can review a portable restroom trailer, mobile shower, or combined unit for the job.

How do I choose a portable sleeper layout?

Start with the rooming arrangements. A crew sharing bunk space has different needs from staff who need separate rooms. The model pages show photos and published details to help you compare.

What should I send before discussing delivery?

The address, preferred dates, crew size, and a description of the entrance and available space are useful. Include what you know about power, water, and wastewater connections so we can talk through placement.

Mickey Mantle grew up in Commerce

Commerce is remembered as the hometown of Mickey Mantle, who grew up there before becoming a major-league baseball star. The Oklahoma Historical Society documents his local roots and the nickname “Commerce Comet.” A future baseball-history exhibit or community program could consider a shower and restroom combination trailer for an outdoor venue, if existing facilities do not meet the event’s needs.

A 1934 traffic stop became a major local crime story

On April 6, 1934, Bonnie Parker, Clyde Barrow, and Henry Methvin were involved in the killing of Commerce police officer William Campbell and the wounding and kidnapping of police chief Percy Boyd. The Oklahoma Historical Society records the event as part of Commerce’s history; it should be read as violence against local officers, not romanticized outlaw lore. A future history program could arrange a portable restroom trailer for attendees.
