April 2011 flooding cut off the Scenic Rivers Commission

During the April 21–27, 2011 flood, water covered Highway 10 north and south of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission headquarters on the Illinois River, leaving five men stranded there. For another multiday flood response, a shared sleeper trailer at an approved staging site gives rotating responders a place to rest between access-road checks and river updates.

NWS Tulsa says they still received warning information and passed it to hundreds of people cut off without utilities; Camp Egan, upstream of Eldon, also took water, reaching six feet at its tabernacle and 12–18 inches in its lodge and storage sheds.

The 2018 tornado crossed Lake Tenkiller through Cookson

NWS records the November 30, 2018 long-track tornado as EF2 overall. After a future windstorm, a shower and restroom combination trailer can serve a cleanup base where crews are clearing trees and reopening rural access, once incident managers have selected a safe site.

In Cherokee County, it entered near a Lake Tenkiller inlet, followed the eastern shore through Cookson and Cherokee Landing State Park, and damaged or destroyed homes, docks, boats and outbuildings; the report also notes snapped trees and power poles and destroyed hangars west of Cookson.

Cookson opened an ice-storm shelter in January 2009

Oklahoma’s January 29, 2009 ice-storm update lists the Cookson Community Center at 31521 S. 540 Road as a Red Cross shelter. Red Cross supplied volunteers and food while Cherokee Nation provided cots and blankets; seven people spent Wednesday night there. The same update says chain-saw teams were working in Cookson where fallen trees and branches blocked driveways and walkways and left debris on roofs.

For a future cleanup with crews moving between homes, a mobile laundry trailer can give a central base somewhere to handle work clothes after a day of cutting and hauling.

A frozen pump cut water pressure in parts of RWD #16

During the February 2021 cold snap, Cherokee County Rural Water District #16 warned of low pressure or no water in several service areas. Its alert said the lake pump in Woodhaven had frozen; on the evening of February 18, about 20 customers nearest the Woodhaven Water Plant still had little to no water. If a later utility repair has crews working out along the district lines, a restroom trailer at a selected work base can give operators a nearby facility between service calls.

Follow-up notices tracked work on the pump and frozen meters through February 20.

Cherokee County timber work has both a long record and current advice

A U.S. Forest Service survey recorded 323,000 cubic feet of hardwood saw logs from Cherokee County in 2002. More recently, an August 2025 Oklahoma Forestry Services report noted staff had helped county landowners with timber-harvest information. When a landowner moves from planning to an agreed harvest, a contractor sleeper trailer can support a short-term crew base near the tract if the property layout and road access allow it.

ODAFF’s timber-sale guide lays out the practical steps: mark boundaries, inventory the trees, check site access and put the logger’s responsibilities in writing.

ODOT awarded a $30.6 million SH-82 contract in 2024

ODOT’s July 1, 2024 award notice lists a $30.655 million contract for grading, drainage, widening, surfacing and bridge work on SH-82 across Cherokee and Sequoyah counties. Its route description places one section near Tenkiller State Park and another near Cookson; the combined project length is 6.7 miles.

For a rural highway contract, a shower trailer can be useful at the contractor’s approved base when a crew is working away from its regular maintenance yard.

Burnt Cabin added a restroom for boaters at Lake Tenkiller

At Burnt Cabin Marina in Park Hill, existing bathrooms could not keep up with visitor volume, so the owners sought a floating restroom for boaters with its own septic system. When routine facilities have to close during later dock work or a renovation, a mobile restroom trailer can keep a separate service point available for the site’s workers and visitors.

During a December 19, 2024 visit, Oklahoma DEQ checked the design, site work and sewer lines; the inspection report’s photos show the floating restrooms in place.

Caney Creek sampling has a station north of Barber

An Oklahoma Water Resources Board record places a Caney Creek sampling station north of Barber, off SH-100, and lists biological and water-quality samples collected from September 1999 through November 2012. USGS also identifies a Caney Creek monitoring location near Barber in Cherokee County, with data sets covering stream and field measurements.

At a future creek-monitoring day, a portable handwashing station gives technicians a cleanup point away from the bank once samples are packed.

Can the facilities be coordinated as one site plan?

Yes. Share how the units need to work together, along with placement, utility, delivery access, and servicing requirements. Final configuration and availability are confirmed for the project.

What information helps plan a project in Cherokee County?

A project address, crew size, rooming needs, dates, access and placement details, available utilities, and the supporting services you want to include.

Cherokee Nation revised its rural broadband build plan

Cherokee Nation’s 2022 announcement said a $34 million federal award was intended to support more than 240 miles of fiber and towers in underserved communities across Cherokee, Adair, Delaware, Mayes and Sequoyah counties. If a rural tower installation is scheduled near Barber, a containerized sleeper unit can give installation crews a lodging option near their work area once the route and base have been approved.

The Nation’s FY24 Q4 report records a later redesign: it planned to drop the underground-fiber build and use existing electric-cooperative backhaul for 15 towers, with fixed-wireless service projected for 5,899 unserved households in four counties.

Cherokee County and Cherokee Nation backed a Fourteen Mile Creek bridge

Cherokee Nation’s 2025 transportation program lists the 14-Mile Creek Bridge as a cooperative project with Cherokee County, with ODOT to let the work using Tribal Transportation Program funding. In ODOT’s May 8, 2026 construction report, contract 250066 appears for the county-road bridge and approaches over Fourteen Mile Creek, about two miles west of SH-10 in Moodys, with a September 2025 work start.

A future creek-bridge crew working beyond the town center may need a place to wash up as well as a toilet; a shower and restroom combination trailer can consolidate those facilities at a selected construction base.
