A Sallisaw Creek rescue led Sequoyah County to review a low-water crossing

On February 21, 2018, a 70-year-old Sequoyah County man was swept from his pickup at the low-water bridge on Drake Road south of Sallisaw. That kind of creek crossing can become a work site after heavy rain. For a future repair assignment, a portable restroom trailer for flood recovery crews at the approved staging area would keep breaks off the narrow road and away from the crossing.

County emergency-management director Steve Rutherford said responders from McKey, Vian, Rural Fire District 1, and Sallisaw used a boat to bring him back to land. Rutherford also said county commissioners were working on a plan to improve the road and bridge.

The 2005 Sallisaw tornado snapped trees and four power poles

The National Weather Service confirmed an F1 tornado in western Sequoyah County on April 5, 2005. It touched down five miles west-southwest of Sallisaw, crossed a 2.5-mile path, and lifted about three miles northwest of town. After a future round of line and tree work in this part of the county, a portable handwashing station for storm crews near the crew’s equipment area gives workers a place to clean up before they eat or return to the truck.

Forecasters recorded snapped and uprooted trees and four broken power poles. The survey does not say the track crossed Badger Lee.

January 2009 ice left Sequoyah County among the hardest-hit areas

Oklahoma emergency managers reported on January 29, 2009, that Sequoyah was among the counties with the largest continuing electric-cooperative outages. Restoration crews reported three-quarters to one-and-a-quarter inches of ice on power lines. The statewide update does not break the outage count out for Badger Lee or name a local line crew.

For a later multi-day restoration assignment, a mobile laundry trailer for utility restoration crews at the crew’s home base would give workers a place to deal with wet workwear before the next trip along the line.

A 2020 water-line failure left thousands of Sequoyah County homes short of water

In April 2020, a major water-line failure left about 2,500 Sequoyah County homes without water or with sharply reduced pressure. Local radio reported that muddy ground and extensive damage forced crews to reroute hundreds of feet of new line, delaying repairs; county emergency manager Steve Rutherford handed out water at Blunt Baptist Church, about five miles north of Sallisaw. Rutherford stayed at the church distribution point into the evening and returned early the next morning. If another outage required a staffed pickup there, a portable restroom trailer for rural waterline work could be set near the public access so volunteers and residents have a place to stop while water is handed out.

The report describes a county response, not a documented outage inside Badger Lee.

Two Coal Creek wells entered production in Sequoyah County

In a March 2010 filing, Mesa Energy Holdings described its Coal Creek project as eight leases covering about 700 acres in Sequoyah County. The company said two wells, Cook No. 1 and Gipson No. 1, had been completed, tested, connected to an Arkansas Oklahoma Gas sales line, and begun producing. A later service call on a rural gathering line can keep a small technical crew in the field between shifts; a remote sleeper trailer for gas-field technicians near the permitted work area is one way to avoid turning each rest break into a long drive.

The filing places the project in the county’s Arkoma Basin gas play, but does not locate either well in Badger Lee or report a compressor station there.

ODOT awarded a $42 million I-40 interchange and bridge package near Sallisaw

In August 2018, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission awarded a contract exceeding $42 million to reconstruct the I-40 interchange at U.S. 64 near Sallisaw. ODOT said the awarded package was also to replace I-40 bridges over the Kansas City Southern railroad and two creeks near the interchange, addressing four structurally deficient bridges. ODOT named Sallisaw, not Badger Lee, as the project location.

The bridge and interchange work called for coordinated crews around several structures. On a similar future assignment, a shower and restroom trailer for a highway crew placed at a contractor’s approved support area could put showers and restrooms close to the workforce without crowding the active ramp.

Aviagen's bio-secure feed facility added a specialized build in Sallisaw

JESCO’s project record describes a 10,000-square-foot bio-secure poultry-feed facility it built for Aviagen North America in Sallisaw, designed to support about 45,000 tons of feed a year. During a later equipment overhaul, contractors could use a portable restroom trailer for an agricultural facility project at their designated entrance instead of moving through the bio-secure production space for breaks.

The scope included 100,000 square feet of concrete paving, grading, silo and chiller foundations, and installation of feed-handling equipment. The project profile gives a ten-month duration but no construction dates; it documents a feed facility, not a timber yard.

An I-40 engineering study mapped Linker-Hector soils in Sequoyah County

ODOT’s geotechnical study for an I-40 Port of Entry project in Sequoyah County describes Linker-Hector complex soils in the mapped alignment and records field sampling near the corridor. The report places that project in the county’s southeastern hills, about a mile and a half west of the Arkansas state line; it is useful regional engineering context, not a soil test from a Badger Lee parcel.

For a future soil or grading survey around Badger Lee, a portable handwashing station for soil-survey crews at the crew’s return point would give workers a practical place to clean up before handling food or heading home.

ODOT funded a signal-and-surface upgrade at a Sallisaw rail crossing

Minutes from ODOT’s February 16, 2021 commission meeting list construction funding for a railroad signal-and-surface project at West Port Arthur Place in Sallisaw. The planned work paired flashing signals and gate arms with a 32-foot concrete crossing over the Kansas City Southern mainline; its total cost was listed as $520,250. Rail-crossing work has to be coordinated around the operating line. If a future signal or surface crew is assigned nearby, a portable restroom trailer for rail-crossing work at the authorized work access can keep restroom trips clear of the track and roadway.

The record documents a crossing-safety project, not a freight siding build, and does not say construction was completed.

ODOT awarded a county bridge replacement south of U.S. 64 near Sallisaw

ODOT’s May 2024 contract award lists a Sequoyah County bridge-and-approaches job on Sallisaw View Road, also identified as N464.5. The crossing is over an unnamed creek, 0.9 miles south of U.S. 64 near Sallisaw; Treas Construction received the $917,227 contract. The award describes a Sallisaw-area county-road project but does not identify Badger Lee as its site.

For a future bridge crew working in this corridor, a mobile shower trailer for bridge-repair crews at the contractor’s off-road support area could give the team somewhere to wash off concrete dust before heading home.
