The Asher post office moved south from Avoca

On November 26, 1901, postmaster George A. McCurry moved his store and post office about two miles south from Avoca to the new Asher site. A future heritage exhibit could explain how that move drew services toward the new townsite. A portable restroom trailer could support visitors at a venue chosen by the organizers.

The town was named for George M. Asher, who donated land but never lived in Pottawatomie County.

SH-39 work brought flaggers and two bridge replacements near Asher

ODOT announced in May 2021 that SH-39 would narrow intermittently from US-177 at Asher to about three miles east of SH-102 near Wanette. The $7 million contract covered nearly three miles of pavement reconstruction and two box bridges.

With flaggers controlling one lane, a shower and restroom combination trailer at an approved staging area could keep washroom access away from traffic.

A second uncertain tornado entry sits near Asher in the 1962 record

The NWS county database contains a May 28, 1962 entry listed as near Asher. It records a very short path but marks the F-scale uncertain, so the table supports a report rather than a damage account.

If a future survey is assigned around town, a portable restroom trailer for field assessment at the staging point could keep field breaks away from private property and active roads.
